Sunsational Designs Gallery & Beads Of Paradise — Attraction in Hatteras Island

Stopped in for a little outing with my 13 yr old daughter who loves beading. We weren’t really sure what to expect- maybe she would get a few cool beads, maybe we’d just browse. What I didn’t realize was that you can make jewelry while you’re there! We stayed for about an hour picking out beautiful beads and charms. You pay for every component to make your piece and Sheila helps to bring it all together. What a cool experience! It’s a quaint shop and so very peaceful. We had a lovely time and great conversation with Sheila who is very sweet and gentle. The shop also has some beautiful, natural, hand painted pieces. Sheila is quite the artist. It was a great experience for some mother/daughter time....

The story behind the gallery/shop and owners is what makes this place feel like a home away from home. Been coming down to Avon for 30 years and being able to connect with natives makes you feel apart of the community. Every art piece is unique, beautiful and special knowing that it's all made by a native ARTIST, Shelia the owner! She was so so sweet and talented. While visiting, mom and I got hair wraps by Sarah. Not only talented and did we love our wraps but we also loved Sarah. A very true, genuine person that took us down memory lane while getting our hair done. This shop is amazing. The owner Sheila Jackson creates the most beautiful works of art by painting animals on various shells, driftwood, rocks, feathers, and other natural materials. There are also large cabinets of jewelry of different designs, soaps, and a huge selection of beads and supplies for the aspiring creator of jewelry.
