I'm glad this museum exists, especially in Hattiesburg, which has badly segregated neighborhoods. The building is neat, the staff is friendly, and the tour is free! Audio/video options are also incorporated. I do think the exhibits should be more straightforward about the struggles African American troops faced. Read moreA very informative young lady greeted us and gave us some information on what the building was previously used for (USO for enlisted African American soldiers). They have pictures and information on men and women from the area that served in the various wars, their accomplishments, and their awards. No admission charge and we'll worth taking the time to view what they have. I was glad to see the city owns it and not the National Park Service as NPS can't take care of what they have. Read moreThe first thing I noticed when I walked in was how pleasant the facility was. It is attractively arranged and it smells good. The staff is wonderful--Carrington greeted us and she was knowledgeable and pleasant.
The exhibits cover everything from the American Revolution up to the present. Several of the exhibits are very kid-friendly--a jeep and a wooden horse that kids an climb on.
Admission is free but donations are excepted.
