My World Kauai. Summer 2020 ~ #shareyourworld

- requires a short hike down stairs and a fairly muddy trail. The trail is located at the end of the 1 hotel hanalei valet parking lot just before you enter the hotel. There’s a trail along the edge or you can walk through the parking lot to get to the top of the stairs and that’s where it begins. There are ropes along the edge that you can hang onto but it’s fairly steep and muddy. Do not recommend wearing clothes you want to keep clean. Also your hands will get dirty holding onto the ropes. That being said, the beach is definitely worth it. Given that it requires a hike to get to, the beach is fairly secluded and has the clearest waters that I’ve seen. Beware, there is limited parking here. You can’t park in the 1 hotel lot and there’s a a small beach public parking that fits about 8 cars only and is full most of the day. On a clear day you can see the mountains to the west. Definitely recommend trekking out here if you can make it!

The beach is fairly small but idyllic. Access is via a short but steep path, well secured with ropes on both sides to help navigate it safely. There is enough shade and the sand is beautiful. Swimming is decent and I have seen people surf and snorkel. This will not be a good spot to watch sunrise, and sunset will be hit and miss depending on the season. In October, it was too late as the sun sets before clearing the mountains but the after glow is still very beautiful from this location (see pictures below). Parking is an issue, not enough parking spots are available, especially when people needlessly occupy two spots with one car. I was there at 6:15 am and the parking was full. When parking is full, I suggest keep trying, maybe someone leaves or drive and park at the golf course (paid parking) and walk back for about 20 minutes.

Beautiful beach!! Please, please please help to preserve this place...

  1. Pack-it-in --PACK-IT-OUT plastics are killing these beautiful places. See a discarded water bottle or flip flop -Do your part and dispose of these items properly.
  2. Use only reef-safe sunscreen!!!! Chemicals in most sunscreens are killing the coral and the sea life.
  3. Stay off the reef -snorkeling is observation only. That's not rock! It's coral!! The human touch can destroy 100 years of growth in a single touch.
  4. Leave the turtles alone! Yes, they are beautiful. If you happen across one (consider yourself lucky)! Observe for a minute from a distance... Do not in any way harass, distract or bother these creatures in any way. and NEVER -NEVER TOUCH A TURTLE!! Hawaiian green sea turtles are protected by state and federal law, so it is illegal to touch them or harass them.
  5. pass this on... Help educate everyone on these practices and maybe we can reduce the human impact...

Hands down the best place to snorkel in Princeville/Hanalei area if you’re interested in seeing an abundance of fish and a chance at spotting sea turtles. Both times I went out, I was able to spot 2 turtles in less than 15 minutes. I was also able to run into a huge Moray eel, a school of cravalle jack, and tons of other reef fish. I can see how the trail down/up can be challenging for some. If you have knee/hip arthritis or young children, you may want to try a different spot such as Anini Beach. Parking is also an issue if you’re not staying in the area as parking is very limited (no joke, like 10 spots). Again Anini may be a better bet if you’re not arriving early to snag the few parking spots. Hideaway is not a beach known for soft sand if that’s what you are looking for. It’s more like small gravel. If you want soft sand and calm waters, check out Hanalei Bay instead, but not much to see in terms...
