Mauna Kea Residences — Attraction in Hawaii

We just returned from Hawaii, where we stayed at Mauna Kea Residences, Villa 22. I must say that the view walking in is amazing. Straight through from the front door to the rear windows and the glorious Pacific Ocean. That is the only positive I have regarding this house. This was a 3 bedroom home, with the master having a king bed, the second BR had 2 twins or fulls, and the third BR had 2 pull out twins. Clearly not a home you could bring another adult couple. The home is very dated. My guess it was built in the 1980s. The "sunken" living room gives that away. We paid $10,000 for 4 nights. At bedtime the first night, we encountered the horribly worn mattress, mushy and worn in the center, so my wife and I rolled toward each other as soon as we got into the bed. We were so sunken down that it was difficult to get out of the bed! It was impossible to get a decent night sleep in this bed, which unfortunately tainted our entire impression of the home. They also do not provide housekeeping for our $2500/night. I was shocked at this. If this home is representative of the Mauna Kea Residences, I would certainly encourage potential visitors to look elsewhere. We were extremely disappointed. The response from owner is par for the course for this entire experience. Blame the client!! My wife and I are retired, and travel 70-80 days per year. The bed in this unit was awful whether a person likes a firm mattress, or sleeping on mashed potatoes. We have never experienced a bed like this anywhere. The basic requirement of lodging is a comfortable bed. You certainly won't find that here. But excuses abound. I have owned 2 service businesses in my life (medical practice and air charter company). Stayed with our families in the residences over the thanksgiving break. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Access to both the westin and the mauna kea resort was a plus and made this a good value. The beach at mauna kea is world class. I have never been to a better beach, water is clear, there is some interesting snorkeling, body surfing when the surf is up and fun activities.
