This is the best cinema on the west side of the Big Island.
I can safely say that, as it is now the ONLY CINEMA ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE BIG ISLAND.
I bring my noise-cancelling headphones with me when I go, as frequently the sound is extremely loud, and wearing them brings the volume down to normal.
I also dress in layers, as the air-conditioning is often very cold.
There is no IMAX.
The seats are comfortable.
There are 20 to 25 minutes of commercials (previews & promos of sodas & popcorn & candy) prior to each show. If the stated time is 1515 (3:15 pm) - you won't miss the main feature if you're seated by 1535 (3:35 pm).
UPDATE (7/28/24) -- I just watched Deadpool & Wolverine. It was scheduled to start at 2 pm, but it had more than 30 minutes of COMMERCIALS, most of which were the kind you buy ad-free subscriptions to TV streaming services to AVOID WATCHING. My advice is to ask, not for the scheduled start time, but for WHEN THE MOVIE ACTUALLY STARTS. In my case, the actual movie didn't start until 2:31 pm. (The movie was particularly violent, with a modicum of humor thrown in, mostly by Ryan Reynolds. If watching people get eviscerated with knives, swords, & claws isn't your favorite, this is probably a pass, and I won't watch it twice.)
10/3/24: "The Wild Robot" is one of the best movies I have seen in years! Good animation, good music, good story line with humor, good for...
Read moreIf you wish to enjoy a movie a little too much and want to laughter out loude be aware that you may insult less intelligent ones. I was threaten with being punished for not apologizing for laughing too loud and disruptive to someone else theater experience. Dropped over $600 in.merchandise at this theater only to be confronted and threatened by some local racists Hawaiian that I should apologize to some geriatric woman that didn’t like that I enjoyed and spent over $700 in tickets and merchandise revenue. Was called a racist slurs on camera for being white and was made to feel completely uncomfortable by the theater staff as I did something wrong other than enjoying the premiere of Deadpool Wolverine’ movie that opened here today. This theater and its staff was completely incompetent to handle the situation after having this man in my face and personal space literally threatening me with violence in front of staff and other ppl. Will be looking to seek legal action as a friend recorded this whole interaction. Will never go to this or any theater association with this company. If you are white skin and do not belong to Hawai’i I would suggest not going to this theater for if you enjoy something a little too much for a local to approve of then it can come with consequences without you even knowing it...
Read moreThis is my first time in a movie theater since 2020 and I have to say I REALLY missed going out to see a good movie on the big screen.
This has become the only modern movie theater for the Kona area, the next closest is about 30 miles to the North.
The staff were professionally kind and pleasant, and went out of THEIR way to bring my cooked food to me in the theater!
The seats are the traditional movie theater seats, so was very nostalgic for me!
EVERYTHING was extremely CLEAN and organized!
Ticket prices are average and up with the times but not as expensive as some theaters I have visited that were no where near as cool do to A/C, clean, professional, and accommodating.
The concessions have a wonderful selection and are priced with the times… this IS a business and they have to make money to stay open so I cannot be upset that the personal pizza is 8$.
If you are looking for a fun occasion… this theater is definitely up for the occasion!
I think, if there are any movies I l consider worth watching being shown, I will be there on the Holidays too! This place is THAT...
