Visiting Hawaii on vacation. We wanted to eat Hawaiian plates because it is Hawaii. We ordered a variety of dishes for everyone to try - Kalua pork, garlic chicken, orange chicken, garlic shrimp, chicken katsu, and span wasabi. We picked this location because it had good reviews 👎. We spent $80+, and not any dish stood out as really good. We got our food, we tried a few of plates, my husband and I looked at each other and said "this is not very good." We spent the day at the ⛱️, kids should have been starving, but lots of food was wasted. I had two large pieces of fat in the kalua pork I ordered. We ordered the larger order of katsu chicken, because it is our kids favorite at a place back home- the chicken was not pounded thin, it was not very crispy, and it had no flavor. The chicken is thigh meat, which is good and great for specific dishes - but in battered pieces of meat, chicken breasts do not have the fatty, chewy pieces that you find with thigh meat. It is large portions. When we ordered our food it was alot of dishes, and I forgot to ask for salad- unlike most we hate the pasta. But we were not asked if we wanted salad or pasta, and we were given pasta of course. But hey it is fast food, this is just my review of our experience and my review of the food quality we...
Read moreDO NOT go to L&L Hawaiian BARFecue! Unless you want to barf. Are you tired and do t want to go to school or work, but hate to lie and fake being sick, then go to L&L Hawaiian BARFecue, and you can actually get sick and barf! Isn’t that great! Seriously this is the worst barbecue I’ve ever had, and maybe even the worst food I’ve ever had. When we walked into the place we knew it was going to be bad, it smelled disgusting inside the store. Our order was ready very quickly in only five minutes. We got take out, and on our way back to our house we stopped at the store, we ran into a person that asked what was smelling good, (the food smelled very good) and we said it was the food we were carrying, they then said “Oh I didn’t know anything from that place could smell good.” At that point we started to get nervous, and left the store to drive home. When we opened it at home it looked GROSS. One persons pork was fatty and looked like rubber, and then two other meals were gross to. Disliking the gross food, we resorted to the rice, but that wasn’t any better. It was soggy and wet. We wasted $40 on this disgusting food and we couldn’t eat any of it. DONT...
Read moreWife, MIL, and I are here on vacation. We thought we'd better try Hawaiian food while in Hawaii.
Service was fast, and no-nonsense: took our order, and got us our food. My wife had Chicken Katsu - she liked it, but said it didn't have too much flavor. Mother-in-Law had Fried Shrimp, and seemed to like it fine. There was a LOT of rice included. I had the Lau Lau Combo plate. It was... okay. I was not a fan of the leaves that the Lau Lau were wrapped in - the pork inside was okay, but bland. The Kalua Pork was better - just pork and cabbage. Other than the leaves, both kinds of pork could have used some kind of help - I eventually poured soy sauce on the pork and rice, which helped.
Admittedly - I'd never had this preparation of pork before, and perhaps the taste of the leaves threw me off, so take that for what it's worth.
I will say this - they gave us a LOT of food. None of use could finish our meals, and I really felt I got my money's worth. I wish we'd been able to take the leftovers back to our condo... but we would have left them in a car for 3 hours before we got back, and didn't...
