Discriminatory library like the rest of them. They only welcome/greet certain people who walk through the door. Probably just white or Asian people, despite the library literally being in a historically predominant Mexican American city (HG). I couldn't tell if the female librarian at the front desk is Asian or white or Latina, but I'm pretty sure she is Asian, based on her voice and accent. When me and my mother walked in a little while ago, nobody greeted us even though we don't come here often at all. But just a few minutes later, a white guy entered and she greeted him immediately. Check yourselves please bc you think we're not paying attention or you assume none of us Latinos speak or understand English -- but we do.👍🏼 And we speak it and understand it a lot better than you Asian people. Spanish is closer to English anyway. They are both European languages with similarities, unlike any Asian language.
Both me and my mother grew up here. This is our hometown. Maybe you should hire people that better fit and represent the area in which the building sits, aka more Latino librarians. And you racist librarians should go work in an area that contains the demographics you like and respect. You deserve one star. Actually less than one. Don't know if it's bcus we walked in with tote bags or bc of our ethnicity. Correct yourselves. Most of you librarians discriminate against certain types of people that you shallowly judge on the outside and you don't deserve a career servicing the public. Maybe go work in the back of a warehouse where you won't have this issue with the general public. And consider how you might make others...

But now to specifics, the Hawaiian Gardens Library, which is the closest location to me in OC.
The best thing about this library is its FABOULOUS, helpful, friendly STAFF!!! I've seen them (Woody especially) notice someone is having a problem and go up to him and ask if he needs help. PROACTIVE!! I was getting a bunch of holds yesterday and the lady at the desk said "Another one just came in for you." She noticed and cared and saved me a long bike trip.
They're smallish but it's part of the county system so there are millions of books available through FREE holds. And the marvelous thing about the county library is they still have old, hard-to-find books. They don't just purge willy-nilly but keep even older paperbacks. I won't mention the title of the rare old pricey paperback I wanted to read cause I don't want it to be stolen, but they had it!...
Read moreIt is a small library but if you are a student and need to do some work, they have three tables opened with lots of portables to charge your phone, computer, etc. and a few seats. I came here on a friday and there was space available. It was just me and two other people in here. Also, has a small teen section with three tables. A children section with...
