City Sports Club — Attraction in Hayward

BEWARE WHEN TAKING YOUR KIDS TO CHILDCARE!!! I took my 3 year old daughter on Tuesday at 6 pm to City Sports in Hayward off Whipple and dropped her off at childcare. I took her potty as soon as we got there. I told her to try to open the door to the bathroom to see if she could get out in her own. She couldn't the door was too heavy so I took her to one of the caretakers and specifically told her if my daughter needs to go potty she's going to let you know. Can you please hold the door open for her? She said she would. She and the other caretaker were holding infants and there way way too many kids for just the two caretakers. I was leary about leaving my daughter but told her to stay in the front so the lady could see her as there was older boys throwing the ball around and I was afraid she would get hit. My husband picked her up at 7 pm and as I saw them leaving I could tell she was hysterically crying. As I was leaving the gym I called him to find out what happened and he told me the caretaker left her in the bathroom and she couldn't get out. She forgot her! She was crying and screaming for God knows how long. I turned around and went to speak to the manager. He was nonchalant about it and said yes it's serious we will have the director call you. I didn't get a call the next day so I called corporate and all they could tell me is we can assure you this won't happen again. They asked if I wanted a call back??!! Seriously they are not understanding how serious this could have been. A toddler in a bathroom with a toilet bowl of water it could have been tragic if it was a younger child. My husband and I made an appointment with the manager and he had no real solution for us. I wanted to make sure it didn't happen to other children. He said he couldn't promise that things could change. I wanted a formal apology and I never got that either. They truly don't care about the children's well being. I'm have since canceled membership and asked for a refund. I have only gotten refund for. 4 months. My daughter is traumatized and said the lady left me alone in the bathroom. I was screaming and hitting the door and she didn't come. It was dark (lights went off) and I was scared! My daughter is now afraid of the dark and dreary didn't want the door closed to the bathroom or bedroom when she falls asleep. She also wants someone to be with her at all times. Her caretaker and teachers have said she's definitely not the same person. I've taken her to the doctor and she said it can take some time for her to overcome that trauma.

I talked to other parents through social media and several said they had bad experiences with childcare both in Hayward and Fremont. One child got a broken arm and another child was also left in the bathroom at the same gym mine was in Hayward. Knowing that made me more upset because they obviously didn't take any precautions so it wouldn't happen again.

"This is not towards the gym itself but the policy for the day care on one particular subject. I wish I could give it ZERO stars after today's incident. On Friday, my husband went to the gym, dropped off our twins at 0900 and picked them back up around 10:30. When he arrived at the day care, one of our twins was completely naked from the waist down, with his private area exposed to about six other children. My husband ask why they didn't do anything and the girl simply said it was policy for them not to put clothes back on the children once it has been taken off by them. WHY THE HECK DID SHE NOT NOTIFY MY HUSBAND AS SOON AS IT HAPPENED?! WHY WOULD SHE ALLOW MY SON TO BE HALF NAKED AND IT BE OKAY?! Mind you, my twins are two years old and yes, boys will be boys but this was definitely NOT OKAY and my sons do not take their clothes off just like that, especially in public. Of course, my husband is too embarrassed at this point to even talk to a manager about it, so he just got our son dressed and left. As a mother, who is VERY protective as it is with who my children are around, this makes me question the people who are watching over other members children. How do I know that these workers are qualified to even watch children? Do they do a background check to see if they are registered sex offenders? How do I know if my son was molested or other children who see my child's privates, touch him there. My husband should have been notified IMMEDIATELY! I feel that this worker did not seem to care that my child was exposed, for God knows how long, and that she should not be allowed to watch other member's children. The workers in the Gym Day Care need to be properly trained on how to deal with certain situations and if that really is the policy regarding children being exposed then they need to change that. All they had to do was notify my husband immediately, but they couldn't even do that. This review reflects on City Sports policy and the swim school to which they lease out. The problem started in the summer when my friends and I noticed that these mothers brought their boys into and through our women's locker room to go to the pool for swimming lessons!! Some women didn't even bother to shield their boys' eyes! And we have women coming out of the shower without a towel, women walkIng about the locker area half naked, etc. All normal activities in a locker/changing/shower area! We had complained several times to the front desk as well as to individual sales manager. My friend had written emails to their management AND the headquarter, but nobody responded to her! I was always told "yes, that's inappropriate. We will take care if it". But it happens again and again! I saw this a total of 5 times! The most recent one happened 2 weeks ago! I even pointed out the mother and boy to the sales manager, and we both agreed that the boy was old enough to walk throughout the men's locker room by himself!!!!

Also, I understand that these parents are not paying members of our gym! And, we have to sacrifice an entire lane (out of a total of 3 lanes) to this swim school! Everyday from 1 pm onward in the summer! I am not against the idea of a swim school, but I definitely will not sacrifice my privacy at all!!!!!

I truly hope that this won't happen again! Otherwise, I am leaving!
