It’s 11:00 pm on 3/14/2025. My family and I are being forced to leave Motel 6 because they say are payment is late. I have been staying here for 6 months, this is unjust and unfair that I’m being treated like this at 11:30 pm on Friday night. I have paid around the same time of day due to my work schedule for the last 6 months but today something is different! As a Veteran I have paid for your freedom to even be in America and this is how you treat my family and I!
YOU HAVE IMPROPERLY EVICTED THE WRONG MARINE! I HAVE NEW ORDERS, STATING TO TAKE MOTEL 6 DOWN FOR MAKING MY FAMILY AND I HOMELESS! YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM MY LAWYER REAL SOON.
Hotel & Motel Law Can a hotel lock out a tenant who has lived there for more than a month? No. If you have lived at a hotel or motel for longer than a month, the law sees you as a tenant, not merely an overnight visitor. A tenant cannot be locked out of their hotel. Rather, the hotel must file an eviction lawsuit and win in court before the hotel tenant can be removed. This is true whether you’ve stayed in the same room for the entire month, or if they have moved you to multiple rooms. The law is only concerned if you have stayed in the building for a month, not whether you’ve been in a room for a month. Once you become a tenant, the hotel must give you proper notice before requiring you to leave. If you have been at the hotel less than a year, the hotel only needs to give you 30 days’ notice. If you have been there longer, they must give you 60 days’ notice to move. If you ultimately don’t move, they cannot call the sheriff and drag you out. Rather, they must file an eviction lawsuit to have you removed. Can a hotel require a resident to move out every 28 days to prevent them from becoming a permanent tenant? No. This is completely illegal. Civil Code §1940.1 prohibits a landlord from making a resident change rooms prior to 30 days, to try to avoid them becoming a tenant. This is commonly referred to as the 28-day shuffle. It is illegal. Can a hotel terminate my tenancy for any reason? If you have lived at the hotel or motel for over 30 days, you are a tenant. Under California law, the landlord can terminate your tenancy anytime within the first year. The landlord merely has to provide you with a written, 30-day notice to terminate tenancy and you must leave. However, if you have lived at the hotel for longer than 1 year, then the hotel cannot terminate your tenancy unless they have “just cause.” In other words, you have to do something really bad before the hotel can terminate your tenancy. If you are paying your rent, the hotel cannot terminate your lease if you have been there for longer than a year. Can the hotel lock me out of my room? No. If you have lived at the hotel or motel for over 30 days, you are a tenant. Tenants cannot be locked out of their rooms. The hotel cannot call the police and have you removed as a trespasser. That is completely illegal. Also, it is forcible entry or trespass for the landlord to come into your room without permission. Civil Code §1954(a)(2) and Code of Civil Procedure §1159 prohibit such actions. Do I have to remain in the same hotel room for 30 days to become a tenant? No. The law only requires you to reside within the four walls of the hotel for over 30 days to become a tenant. It doesn’t matter if you stayed in one room, or were moved to a different room. Can the hotel turn off my room key to force me to move out? No. If you have been there for over 30 days, it is illegal for the hotel to use any means other than going to court to lock you out. The hotel cannot turn off your room to prevent you from having access to your room. Can a hotel call the sheriff to remove a long-term hotel guest? No. If you have lived at the hotel for at least 30 days, you are now legally considered a tenant. A hotel cannot call the sheriff to remove you. Rather, the hotel must file an eviction lawsuit to have you removed. If the hotel has you removed by the sheriff without first taking you to eviction court, the hotel can be sued for an...
Read moreI just got home from a stay here mid-August, 2014 for 3 nights in a 2 queen bed room. Newly renovated room, no gross ancient carpet (faux wood floors, GREAT for someone with allergies), and no gross polyester comforter. I checked for any bugs, shells, or blood spots (signs of bugs) behind furnishings, in mattress seams, on sleeping surface, and I found no signs of them. During my stay, I slept in both beds and had no bites. The room smelled completely neutral, and felt very clean.
There was a bright orange accent wall, no weird old landscape pictures, the shower was full-sized with a bath tub, the sink was totally new and modern, and there was a nice wood chair near the mirror in the room that I used together as a vanity. I can tell they are trying for a mid-century modern feel, and they accomplished that for a high traffic motel with industrial furnishings.
Even though my room backed up against the retaining wall for 880, I didn't hear much highway noise. The area seems like it is zoned for commercial use, and there weren't many people around at night, so I felt safe walking around by myself. There is a tasty Waffle House (breakfast and lunch only) and a Target across the street, and a Denny's, McDonald's, and a Gas Station with a Convenience store, all in the same parking lot, and all open 24 hours (McDonald's drive-thru only, Convenience store window service only).
The staff were extremely polite and helpful, and there was a good security presence who were on-point every time I observed them. I didn't see any security issues during my stay, but I did see one guard assisting the hotel staff with a vehicle parking issue.
Speaking of parking, the lot itself is somewhat chaotic. There isn't a lot of wiggle room, as there are a lot of semi trucks and other professional-use vehicles taking up lots of space meant for standard vehicles. They could probably use some dedicated large lanes, but for now, it was OKAY. Parking the way they did blocked off a lot of parking spots for other residents, which is the only reason I took a star off of my review, but that's not entirely something the hotel staff can control.
PROS: EXCELLENT rates Clean rooms! Obviously newly renovated Great customer service Convenient shopping, restaurants, and fuel. Public transportation bus stop RIGHT in front of McDonald's. Bay Area public transportation is VERY convenient. Samsung flat panel TV in my room
CONS: No coffee pot in-room, but it is available in the lobby. No shampoo/soap/lotion, but there is soap provided. There IS a vehicle entrance to McDonald's from the hotel parking lot, but it is chained off, and the chain isn't easily visible at night. Old doors and old hinges make for lots of squeaks. I fixed mine by rubbing a bit of soap into the hinge. The door to our room let in lots of visible light, and made it harder to...
Read moreThis was the first time I ever experienced a truly "single" room.||I never knew they existed before this stay.||On a lot of my trips Hotels/Motels just give me a double for one and call it a single.||I hope my review of it is something one would expect to be normal for a single room.||At least I hope it was a single ...I would hate to think this room was a double.||||First off ...it was a VERY small room. ||The bathroom was almost bigger than the main room.||||It had a full sized bed and a 27" flatscreen and that was about it.||||No microwave, no fridge and no hairdryer.||||If you want wifi you'll have to go to the office. ||They won't set it up over the phone.||The wifi pretty much sucked. Slow speeds and constant disconnections.||I should have known better when the front desk agent laughed when I asked about the connection process. ||You're probably better off using your phone as a hot spot if you can.||The cost was 2.99 for the wifi for one night||||Now I don't know if this place is like this all the time but when I was there, there were a lot of people hanging out on the balconies and yelling to other friends below, a lot of open drinking going on ...and so forth.||It was so bad a fellow female worker I travel with, who staying in the room next door, had to ask me to walk her to the office because she didn't feel safe.||She's no cream puff either because she helps lift our heavy loads, just as much as I do.||I would not recommend this place for families with children or single female travelers.||Unless you like staying locked in your room the whole time.||I never really found the ice machine. I think I saw where it was but I didn't like the environment around it so I stayed away.||Like the wifi I guessed they probably charged per bucket on the ice any way so I was better off without it.||Come to think of it ...I don't remember seeing an ice bucket in the room???||||The hotel does surround a McDonalds and a gas station w/ store and there's a Target down the street.||||Sorry Motel 6 personnel but 1st impressions and curb appeal are everything to me and I won't be returning to this...
