We Are Happy w/ Our Decision to Go With Maui Kitchens!! We had a major kitchen/laundry room/ mudroom upgrade performed by Maui Kitchens in the send half of 2023 and were extremely satisfied (*) with the overall experience. We met the owner, Dave Iacovone, through a work colleague that also had a great experience w/ Maui on a large project that went well. We would definitely hire Maui again! The process was pleasant – We had a fairly good idea what we wanted to do (sketches, photos from magazines) and shared those w/ Dave on morning, had a very good conversation and exchanged some ideas. In the next step we signed a retainer that opened him up to design the project. We had a few meetings w/ updates to go through the process. Seeing the design on the screen was amazing – from that we could teaks, improvements, etc. Dave is very passionate about what he does – and has a really solid understanding on ALL of the products, trends, can help steer away from bad ideas (happy we listened to him on a few items). We went through a few stages to release his ability to buy cabinets, etc. And a few months after meeting his team was in to remove the old stuff and install the new – was fun to see the progress every day. Dave is a very nice guy – very busy running the family business but always found time to chat (give him an A+ for communication). He does take pride to get to know homeowners to understand their needs. His team is a big reason for his success – everyone from the demo team; painters, cabinet installers/trim work; plumbers; electricians – they do it right…It was so nice to see some much pride taken in their work! He also has an excellent supply chain for tiling and countertops, plus good relationship w/ plumbing fixture (faucet, etc.) and knob/pull companies. The cabinets we selected – Cherry wood w/ honey finish is what we selected – are in our view some of the nicer cabinets we have seen (we went prior to meeting Dave to see other higher end brands at local showrooms) – at one point early in Dave took us to a large showroom where we could see all the species, styles etc. and once we selected a few options he ordered and they sent us a few full size samples to borrow and check in our kitchen vs. the lighting etc. Believe he has a few supply chains for cabinets – ours came from Kahle – family owner company in Western PA – we are happy about that decision. We confess as the homeowner we had some difficulty making decisions – and Dave was very patient (brought good humor when we needed it) but he was always helpful and re-enforced that we need to make good decisions and not rush if not ready. I am recommended to a few friends that are planning projects to give Dave a call. Wish you all the best of luck w/ you home...
Read moreThis company was hired to remodel our master bathroom. Our house is a one and a half bath, so this was our only shower in the house. During construction, numerous attempts were made to fix their own mistakes only to be compounded with additional issues. All tile work was incorrectly set using multiple types of materials, including a sealant like material that comes out of a caulking gun. When installing tile, it is a requirement that all tile must have ninety five percent coverage of thin set. This is to prevent mold from forming under the tile. They failed to meet that requirement as tiles were loose or easily pulled off in multiple sections. In addition, waterproof banding material wasn’t applied correctly around critical areas in the shower. In multiple locations, tiles didn’t even line up correctly with the pattern we chose, which was a one third offset. Grout lines were off by more than two or three inches along an entire wall for multiple rows of tile. They had failed to meet building code requirements when doing electrical wiring. They installed underrated wire for the type of circuit it was on. They replaced a standard window with a one with frosted glass which was now located inside the shower and completely failed to use any type of sealant. The window should have been sealed using flashing tape and spray foam during installation, which were not done. Large air gaps were visible on all corners of the window, which they were supposed to address but never did. They tiled over the window framing, concealing the issue. We later found out this window was not up to building code and needed to be tempered glass, which was clearly on the contract.
We had to hire multiple new contractors to come in and completely gut out all the work they did.
A certified tile installer was hired to redo the entire bathroom. A master plumber was brought in to fix all the plumbing issues by relocating the hot and cold water lines for the sink. They also cut off all the twist off connectors and put on proper fittings. A master electrician was brought in to inspect the electrical work which was done. This is when he found the issue with the wiring. A general contractor was brought in to evaluate the floor joists after they cut four to five inch holes or notches into them. We now had structural damage which needed to be fixed. A HVAC contractor was brought in to fix the air venting. A window company was brought in to order and install a window which was up to code.
We were left without a shower in our house for over...
Read moreMaui Kitchens did such an outstanding job on our kitchen that, about a year later, we hired them to redo our bathroom. The bathroom renovation is even more outstanding, due in great part to Dave's design and suggestions, like including a bubble massage tub, a pull-out hamper (we decided on 2!), and his suggestion of using different sizes of travertine tile on the walls to create a really eye-catching design. In addition, during both the kitchen and the bathroom renovations, it was a pleasure to work with Dave because he was completely flexible when it came to making changes in the original design and accommodating our wishes. We have since hired Maui to paint our hallway in a faux marble finish and it came out beautiful. We are currently waiting to be scheduled for the installation of new flooring in our entryway, where, again, Dave came up with beautiful samples for us to choose from that I know will be perfect. I highly recommend Maui Kitchens for any home remodeling for several reasons: Dave is so easy to work with and a pleasure to deal with; they use very high quality materials; the workmen are all very professional and do their jobs with great expertise; and perhaps most important of all, they stand behind the job 100% - if anything goes wrong (and "stuff happens" on any remodeling job!) they'll make it right - even if it's months after the job...
