Hockessin in the state of Delaware has become the home of a new statue of Hanuman that is said to be the tallest in the US. The statue, which stands 25 feet tall and weighs around 30,000 kg, was installed on Monday.
The statue was handcrafted and chiselled from a single block of black granite in Warangal, which is a small town in south India, and it cost more than $100,000. The artisans or Shilpils, who specialised in carving, numbered over a dozen and they worked full-time for more than a year to complete it.
Hockessin is now home to the country's tallest statue of the Hindu god Hanuman.
Hundreds celebrated the arrival of the 25-foot granite statue Saturday morning at the Hindu Temple on Yorklyn Road in Hockessin. Donning bright orange hats and shirts that read, "The Hanuman Project," the temple's devotees organized a convoy accompanying the statue across the Delaware Memorial Bridge and to the temple.
Once a flat-bed truck backed the 60,000-pound statue in front of the temple's entrance, a ceremony to welcome the Hanuman was held. Thumping drums, chants and songs filled the block.

"Across India, Lord Hanuman is often enshrined and worshiped in the form of a towering statue and we are proud to bring that tradition to Delaware," said Patibanda Sarma, president of the Hindu Temple Association. "The arrival of this 25-feet-tall Hanuman is a special event in the temple's history."
The statue will be installed in May and will be the tallest statue of a Hindu god carved out of a single piece of stone in the U.S., organizers said. Sculptors in India spent roughly a year carving the statue. Efforts to raise money and organize transportation of the statue began well before that,...

Visited this temple for the first time while visiting our relatives in Pennsylvania. The temple is famous for featuring the tallest statue/idol of one of our famous Gods, Lord Hanuman (our beloved monkey faced God) known for his incredible might and devotion to Lord Rama. He stands 25 feet tall outside the main temple and will soon be accompanied by the Dhyana Hanuman (meditating Hanuman) that will be installed in the temple that will be built in the vicinity.
Inside the temple you fill find the main deity of Goddess Mahalakshmi (known for wealth, fortune, power, beauty, fertility and prosperity) in the center of all. While there are other regular Gods you will find inside a temple, we were amazed by the presence of the 27 different idols representing the 27 stars (Mula, Aslesha, Punarvasu etc.) which we have never seen.
The temple has a canteen attached to it with nominal pricing and is currently taking donations for the temple expansion. The parking is spacious and the temple is surrounded by greenery and has a calming surrounding.
I look forward to coming here...
Read moreSir/Madam, This is the incident from April 23,2016. I was at temple to take my kid to a cultural program. I arrived at 1 pm at the place. I could not find any parking spot . I was looking for one and was guided by a man who asked me to park in the front of the temple and placed a orange cone . I had to come back after I drop my kid and come park in the far off lot . I could not get out until 2.45. The head priest Mr Sharma Approached me while I was pulling out my car from the spot and was talking very rudely in front of my two kids. Before he started off,I realized my mistake and I was very apologetic. He told me that "he did not care if I had 2 kids or 6". I was quite disappointed by his behavior . Not in front of kids. I know I took too long to move the car but there is a way to say and talk to people.I totally understand how much inconvenience it caused others. My kids don't want to go temple ever again.I am from a very respectable part of the community and was gone to donate some funds to the Temple. I am sure they...
