I love to walk at Kollen Park. I grew up in Holland and went here often. I truly do feel that the trail is truly great but that it was long past due. Heinz had the pleasure of blocking the view, sullying up prime property on Lake Mac since the turn of the 20th century. I give them much credit for providing the bike / walk trail along the lake, beyond Kollen Park, in front of their centuries old pickle factory. I suppose, had it been for sale in later years, there would be more ugly condos or monster mini mansions there. I only HOPE that Padnos Scrap Metal would do SOMETHING for the public as Heinz finally did, but it's doubtful. The company takes SO MUCH beautiful lakefront property. Padnos scrap (again, since the 19th century) is the worst, most awful thing to look at, especially from across the lake (north side) and they contribute nothing but a few metal sculptures (made from Padnos scrap) in the front of their acreage, along busy Pine Ave. in Holland. That place is a blight and is certainly a detriment to Holland's tourism industry. They don't really care as the family was part of early Holland commerce. MOST of early Holland commerce is gone. They continue to prosper but give nothing back to the city....
Read moreBeautiful place to bring your own chairs and lunch, to either sit out in the sun, or under a huge, old shade tree. Or just sit on the green, well manicured grass, and watch the activities going on along the bay/lake front directly bordering this beautiful public park. Or bring your walking shoes so you can walk along the trail, bordering along the waterfront.
There are also many public events and activities held here, throughout the year! Really a peaceful place to either bring a book to read, or your yoga mat, just for some relaxing meditation ❣️
Nice, easily accessible, plentiful parking during most days and non peak events. Lot/parking areas tend to be filled up during any public events taking place on park property.
Also, directly next to Boatwerks Restaurant, which has great food and drinks + seasonal outdoor dining along...
Read moreMy wife and I recently visited Kollen Park We brought along our friend visiting from India, and he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the stunning winter scenery. The park sits right along Lake Macatawa, and during our visit, the lake was frozen solid. To his amazement, ge watched locals casually walking across the ice like it was no big deal!
Our friend was so intrigued by this—he’d never seen anything like it back home. He got so excited that he nearly ventured out onto the ice himself, but couldn't get himself to do it, just to be safe. The park itself was beautiful, with snow-dusted trees and a peaceful vibe that made it perfect for a winter stroll. The views of the frozen lake were breathtaking
Kollen Park is such a gem—whether you’re a local or showing it off to an out-of-town guest, it’s a spot that leaves...
