After living in Holland for a few years I decided to get into the history of the town and the first mayor. Had a wonderful tour of the Cappon house and the Settler's house. I must note though that I noticed another view that someone posted about the Settler's house being the house that the Cappon's first inhabited. That is inaccurate. In the very beginning of the tour, the tour guide tells you how the Cappon's previous house had been ruined in the fire of 1871. Also when you go to the Settler's house there is a list of all of the pervious owners of the house. The Cappon family is not on the list. Read moreI love stepping into The Cappon House, as I'm following the footsteps of my great-grandmother, who was related to the family and played here as a child. It's especially cool seeing the kids' toys. This Italianate home was built by Holland's first mayor and tannery owner, Isaac Cappon, after the fire of 1871. Used by the family until 1980, the building has been restored and furnished with Grand Rapids furniture. The Settler's House (1867) survived the fire.
