Howard B. Dunton Park is one of Holland’s best-kept secrets for anyone who loves being by the water. Whether you’re here to fish, walk, or just relax, the park has a little something for everyone. The fishing pier is the main highlight—it stretches out over Lake Macatawa and offers plenty of space for anglers. It's well-maintained, with benches and railings, making it a great spot for both seasoned fishermen and families introducing their kids to casting a line.
The views from the pier are beautiful at any time of day, especially during sunset when the sky reflects over the lake. I've seen people catch bass, bluegill, and the occasional walleye or perch, depending on the season.
Beyond the fishing pier, the park has clean restrooms, picnic areas, a small playground, and paved walking paths that make it accessible to everyone. It’s peaceful, rarely overcrowded, and feels like a calm getaway right in town. There’s also a canoe/kayak launch if you want to get out on the water. The grounds are well-kept, and parking is free and easy to find.
Overall, Dunton Park is a great spot for a low-key afternoon outdoors. Highly recommend it whether you're local or just passing...
Read moreAbsolutely LOVE this park. It's unfortunate the local police use it as an easy way to get some paperwork on the books. I'm not sure why Ottawa County Police are around so heavily anyways when the entire place is under surveillance! It's very safe there already. They seem to make it a little more dangerous! Why?
I only say this because I've seen so many people be stopped and questioned by police in the park. I've never personally had them harass me but I keep to myself and like to believe I don't look to suspicious.
Many others must though because at one point in time I remember watching them drive in and out for over an hour, watching people, driving by them slowly, and ultimately questioning them.
I don't know the background information.. I just call it how I see it. The park is amazing though which is why it...
Read moreThis is a wonderful park but it's really too bad that the view across Lake Macatawa is mostly the back end of Padnos - a HUGE scrap yard, full of unsightly mangled metal and also, the scene of mountains of gravel, limestone, sand, etc. at Brewer's City Coal Dock (in two locations - other within view). It's sad to think that so much effort and money was put into this park - great wooden trail, lovely park, dock for boats, and a dock to walk out on the water - seats and tables. Holland is a beautiful city. Sad that since the 1800's, Padnos has dominated the downtown lake front, blocking the view, for tourists both downtown and...
