I recently moved to Hollywood from out of state. Upon arriving, I knew I wanted to join a fitness facility that could offer me everything and more for my workout needs. Naturally, I turned to Hollywood's LA Fitness not only because of the pool facilities, extensive cardio and weight training machines, and group classes, but also because of its great reputation within the fitness community. Having been a member for about a month and a half, I can say without reservation that LA Fitness absolutely does not live up to its reputation.
As a graduate student, working out is an essential way for me to alleviate stress after an extremely rigorous day of classes and exams. Instead, I often leave Hollywood's LA Fitness feeling more frustrated than I do after finishing twelve hours of classes on top of a difficult physiology exam. The gym is in a constant state of disarray. I can't use any machine without encountering literal garbage. From used tissues to empty smoothie cups littering the floor and cardio equipment, it's a wonder the gym doesn't smell worse than it already does.
Moving on to the lifting portion of my workout only takes my annoyance to the next level. It's a miracle if I can find the right dumbbell weight without running all over the gym, and oftentimes the plates, dumbbells, and barbells are nowhere to be found. I'm a flexible individual and have no problem switching up my routine with another exercise to work the same muscle group, which was also suggested to me by a trainer as a solution to this problem. Be that as it may, it's like the quest for the holy grail to find pulley attachments that match and aren't broken (which, I'm convinced, don't exist). The equipment isn't just scattered throughout the weight room - it's throughout the entire gym, making it nearly impossible to find what I'm looking for. The epic mess is a huge hinderance to exercise, not to mention an issue of patron safety that could easily lead to legal repercussions.
The gym isn't in any better state depending on the time of day, as I have used the facilities in the morning, afternoon, and evenings both on the weekends and weekdays. No matter the time, I encounter the same issues which has convinced me the gym is never tidied up at closing. Don't even get me started on the cleanliness of the equipment. I have seen a patron carry her own set of Lysol wipes to each machine, and a trainer once told me to bring my own yoga mat to class because LA Fitness's "are well, gross." And that's coming directly from an LA Fitness staff member. Clogged toilets and moldy saunas don't exactly scream hygienic. I've often left the gym without completing my workouts because I spend more time trying to find clean, working, available equipment I need than actually exercising.
Next, the trainers. I have seen more than one trainer pushing inappropriate exercises on their clients. An elderly client who has a very difficult time moving from a standing to seated position should never be asked to lay down on the floor to perform an exercise. Regardless of what kind of certification LA Fitness requires of its employees, this is another issue of safety, plain and simple. It is also my understanding that many of the trainers are late to teach their group fitness classes. While obviously I don't pay extra for the classes, this behavior is extremely unprofessional, and I should hope that is not the image LA Fitness wants to portray.
On more than one occasion I've brought my concerns to an employee of the Hollywood LA Fitness. On my very first day at the gym I was told by a trainer "well you just have to look in the right places" and later on, "We've had a lot of complaints. I'll let the manager know" by a front desk member. I have yet to see a single improvement.
LA Fitness is without a doubt one of the most expensive clubs in the area. However, the quality of this gym does not match its cost. LA Fitness should be downright...
Read moreI have been a memeber at the Hollywood gym for over a year now both as a memeber and as a personal training client. As others have mentioned about staff after they get your money they just dont care. Alot of the memebers here are also inconsiderate of others by taking video/selfies, talking, texting and even facetiming on their phones throughout all gym areas including locker rooms and bathroom/shower. I have mentioned this to management multiple times to no avail. The only people walking around paying any attention to the gym are the cleaning staff.
Personal training start up cost of $99 for the privilege of hiring one of their trainers and then $65 per 25 minute session or $156 per hour.
I have used a trainer here once a week for over a year and i have cancelled only one session. The trainers here i like and are good at their jobs. My worst experiences has been with the current personal training management. My firsr trainer left after 9 months of working together no issues during this time.. I had planned to cancel because management was unable to find another master trainer who could train me on the schedule I had originally signed up for. A trainer whom I had spoken to causally while working out here agreed to fit me into her schedule so I could continue but was not a master trainer and she received a different hourly rate for training clients. I continued to pay master trainer rates and would get extra time in leu of paying more. Then management decided to start monitoring how much time my trainer was working with me and started interferring with my sessions. Eventually i started being charged for two sessions on several occasions after a longer, more than 25 minute, workout. Management interfered so much that my trainer wouldn't do longer sessions with me meanwhile I was still paying the master trainer rate. I shared with my trainer that I was looking to buy a house and move and would need to cancel my training in a few months and I asked to book more time to use up sessions so i wouldnt lose them. I requested back to back sessions 50 minutes and was continually either promisd them and then show up to find my trainer was booked with someone else or my requests were just plain ignored. Management kept interfering with my additonal session scheduling requests for the next several weeks. I let management know i was going to be cancelling and i needed to use up my sessions so i wouldnt loose them and I was told i would have 30 days after cancelling. They then tried to force me to use another trainer who had open time but was not at the training level I required so I declined. The next day my trainer messaged me to say I needed to find a new trainer. When I spoke to management about this they half heartedly attempted to set me up with a trainer I approved of. When I said I was also ready to cancel the personal training membership since i had a house purchase in progress the personal training manager started saying inappropriate things to me and went off on me for not accepting their previous offer for a trainer who wasn't what I was looking for. I immediately asked for refund on the remaining sessions which they were not able to do so I was provided a corporate number for that and left. After getting home and reviewing the cancellation receipt i found out that i would have had only 5 days to use my remaining training sessions. The corporate office apologized for what happened and were eager to provide a refund for the remaining unused training sessions.
The whole intent of management here is too take advantage of and deceive its customers...

Review: I recently went to LA FITNESS on Sheridan in Hollywood florida and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. As someone who values cleanliness, comfort, and attentive management, I found several aspects of my stay to be severely lacking.
Firstly, the state of the shower facilities left much to be desired. The grout on the shower tiles was visibly affected by mildew, creating an unhygienic and unappealing environment. Additionally, the shower heads were not functioning as expected, resembling mere pipes protruding from the wall. This lack of proper shower amenities significantly detracted from the overall comfort of the stay.
Another concerning issue was the inconsistency with hot water availability. It is imperative for any accommodation to provide guests with reliable access to hot water, yet regrettably, this basic necessity was not met during my visit. The absence of hot water was both inconvenient and uncomfortable, further detracting from the overall experience.
Furthermore, the cleanliness of the Jacuzzi and pool area was severely compromised. The Jacuzzi appeared to be neglected and in dire need of proper maintenance. Additionally, the entire pool area exhibited signs of neglect and required a thorough power wash. Not only did this detract from the aesthetics of the facility, but it also raised concerns about hygiene and guest safety.
A particular area of concern was the lackluster state of the electric chairs designed for disabled individuals to access the pool. These chairs, being a rust hazard, posed potential risks to users. Moreover, they were inoperable, rendering them useless for those who rely on them. Such inadequate accommodations not only fail to meet accessibility standards but also demonstrate a disregard for the well-being of disabled guests.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the management of this establishment has consistently fallen short in recent years. This ongoing issue reflects a lack of attention to guest satisfaction and suggests a lack of commitment to maintaining high standards. As a result, I must express my disappointment with the overall management of the property.
Considering the aforementioned issues, I regretfully cannot recommend this gym as a satisfactory accommodation option. The lack of cleanliness, subpar shower facilities, absence of hot water, neglected Jacuzzi and pool area, malfunctioning electric chairs, and poor management all contribute to an unsatisfying experience for guests. I sincerely hope that these concerns are addressed and improvements are made to enhance the overall quality of the establishment...
