haha so I kept telling my cousins about this place & they were like oh, candy's not really our thing. but when they found out it was a mochi spot, how the tables have turned.
this place is hidden in a warehouse - like other yelpers have stated, "LOOK FOR THE GIANT RED RADIO TOWER". this place is also next to a Home Depot + Costco!
we waited outside as there were two other people inside the store. it's incredibly small and they get very busy. I called ahead at 7 AM when they first opened so I could get my 3lbs of chi chi dango for my friends and family. my daughter and I ended up picking some mochi while we were there. got one lilikoi which my daughter ate. I had one bite & was surprised she could eat such a sour mochi with no problem. it was good if you're into sour! two melona + two lychee. my favorite by far was the lychee! melona was a nice sweet mochi that would go well with tea IMO. we requested for 6 pieces of chi chi dango unwrapped which they can do as well! our 3 boxes of chi chi dango were all wrapped.
the ladies up front were professional & sweet. they are a bit slow, but I can't blame them. they're making sure they are being gentle with your goods + not swinging it at you. the lady who rang us up even walked out of the counter to hand us our bag of goodies. highly recommend you stop by & try...

Read moreFor years, my cousin has brought chichi dango from Nisshodo to family events, and it was always a welcome treat. Soft, sweet, and eminently crave-able, these are some of my favorites.
When bringing my kids to Hawaii for the first time, I had to hunt this place down. It's in a non-descript warehouse space off of Dillingham. Your GPS will get you close, then you just have to poke around the warehouses. There's just a door with a plainly lettered sign that says "NISSHODO" and, in smaller letters "MOCHI MANJU" above and "CHICHI DANGO" below.
Once inside, you'll find a simple counter where someone will take your order, then head into the back for a number of minutes to pack your order and bring it out. Simple, no-fuss, then you're out with your treats. If you've got a bigger order, it makes sense to call ahead but for smaller orders, it didn't seem to...
