Overall good experience! Food was good, service was great, nice and lively ambiance. I love how they can do smaller portion on a lot of items for half the price, making it easier to sample more items off the menu!
Husband and I came here for brunch on a Sunday, and we ordered couple items to try for our first time. Egg benny is my jam, and I just always end up judging a new spot by their egg benny... so we got their real crab egg benny, chocolate banana French toast (small), real crab omelette and a crème brûlée latte.
The benny eggs were cooked perfectly. The crab cake was made of real crab but something about the taste and the texture being a little off. Not sure what that was. What I didn't like was the bread at the bottom. I'm not a fan of sourdough. And the bread wasn't incorporated into the whole dish. It's like eggs with sauce and crab cake sitting on top of 3 pieces of French sourdough bread. I don't know. It's just a little strange to me. I ended up eating everything on the plate except the bread.
The French toast was thoroughly enjoyed by my husband who always has a sweet tooth for breakfast. But strangely he also ordered the real crab omelette. I think he ordered that for me perhaps because I mentioned I wanted to try it too. :-P so I did try it, and I gotta say it tasted pretty good. (I normally don't order omelette coz I can make a pretty good one myself at home.) I liked the cheese they put on top! Also loved their criss cut fries. So good. (Extra $3.50)
The chocolate banana French toast thing was devoured in less than 5 mins. It's savory and sweet at the same time. Hubby said he should've ordered the full portion haha!
Their Vietnamese coffee was a bit too sweet and just didn't taste right. Not a fan.
Finally, the item I enjoyed the most was actually the tiramisu latte. I normally don't drink coffee, but I just felt like getting one that day, and this one that I tried was goooood. Well-balanced flavor with tiramisu that I could taste.
Service was great. Very friendly server and she also offered as pepper, hot sauce, etc. normally I always have to flag someone down for it.
The value was meh. We ended up spending $100 for 2 people for breakfast and nothing I had was extraordinary. Don't get me wrong, it tasted good, but I'm just not sure if it's worth dropping $50 pp for it b
There's a waitlist you can join by scanning the QR code at the door. Plenty of parking in the lot - same lot as ahi & vegetables in kalihi.
Is it worth the wait? It depends who you ask! Our wait was 35 minute long for 2 people. There's an Asian supermarket behind the block to kill...
Read moreSmile, be an egghead. I am now an official egghead. How did I become one? I ate at this place and I had eggs here of course. So let me give you the egg-act details about what I thought about this place and egg-plain. They take credit cards and have a bathroom (two important details for me when I eat out).
This place is located in Kakaako on Queen Street. If you're going Ewa, then it's on the left side. They have their own parking lot and on the weekends you can use the other businesses' parking stalls. We came on a Sunday and it wasn't too crazy. First you go to the counter to order, they give you a number and then you seat yourself. They (similar to Nordstrom Cafe) bring you your food when it's ready. There are tables inside and outside and community tables.
Ok, so the menu. They have your typical breakfast here: omelettes, pancakes, Benedicts, sandwiches, salads, acai bowls and smoothies, coffee drinks. We chose to try a pancake and an omelette, sweet and savory. Entrees range from $8.50 to $15.95 so pretty standard breakfast pieces.
We got the crab omelette which comes with Parmesan garlic toast, rice or mixed greens. We chose mixed greens which had a nice light house dressing. The crab omelette had real lumps of crab in it and the omelette was fluffy and not greasy. It had a good amount of filling in it. There was a right amount of Hollandaise sauce on top. It was worth $15.95 IMO (in my opinion).
The pancakes all sounded like they would be very sweet and we didn't want something overly sweet. We ended up choosing the Macadamia nut pancake ($11.95) with macadamia nut ganache and haupia sauce. You get three pancakes and the sauce ratio was on point, at least for me. The pancakes were very fluffy and luckily the sauce wasn't too sweet. I enjoyed it, not like Scratch milk and cereal pancakes but still very good.
I'm an eggs girl for breakfast so it was a lot of pancake for me so I suggest if you go with someone or in a group, have someone get an egg dish and someone get a pancake dish to share. Or you both could get an egg entree and get pancakes to share if you're feeling hangry. Next time we will be more daring and try the tiramisu or ube pancakes.
I also got an iced vanilla latte which was very sweet and way more vanilla than coffee. I thought it was good but just depends how you like your coffee drinks.
A lot people warned me about the service but I thought they had better service than I egg-pected. The servers were friendly and checked on us and they also went to tables who were waiting for their food and gave them updates.
I'm egg-cited to come back to try...
