Absolutely incredible experience. It's a bit like a vintage and used electronics pawn shop but also miceocenter, probably nothing else like this on earth.
I had recently bought a Panasonic Electrotune CRT TV because I wanted to have a vintage portable color TV, so I came here looking for a laserdisc player or maybe NES. Something to make the TV "more" and give it collector value and nostalgia from the early 80s.
I couldn't find a laserdisc player and I admit the employees are hard to notice but once I located one and was patient and told him what I was looking for and to to.... he almost read my mind.
He asks me "what about a TRS 80?" I had been in the store for probably 2 hours... all kinds of things and just never saw that special red ryder bb gun vintage gadget I just had to have. I saw this thing and they pull it off the shelf and it has -More- Not only is it a legit CoCo 1 in the same shade of silver as my TV, it has Manuals, cables, serial parallel converter, games, software. It even has an internet browser cartridge should you decide to find a modem.
Price? $250 The Panasonic Portable was $50 $300 for a glimpse into what a powerful small factor color desktop gaming PC looked like. I'm sorry not a glimpse, it runs. $300 for a real adventure in PC history.
Give this place a try if you want to find that special electronic device or project that you just can't wrap your head around. I'm absolutely shocked at how well my project turned out and wanted to thank this place for helping me create a piece of modern running...
Read moreI’ve been to EPO a few times for small electronics projects related to Ham radio, but I had an issue where a lightning strike wiped out a power supply for my office’s phone switch system. The folks at Micro Center referred me to EPO because of the high voltage requirement of the power supply. They were right. EPO had exactly what I needed. The complication that I had was the proprietary plug. The plug had to be switched to fit the connector on our phone switch. The young lady that helped me actually severed the existing connector on the power supply that they had in stock, stripped the wire, and attached the required connector for me. She was so helpful and quick about it! Because of her knowledge of exactly what I needed, and her willingness to help me, she was able to help me get my office phone system back up and running, and helped my employees do what we needed to do, which is to wire millions of dollars to our clients to fund home mortgages. She saved the day for us, and for that, she deserves to be commended. She probably didn’t realize how much she helped me, but she saved our office and helped us maintain our client’s confidence. Shop at EPO, and hopefully they’ll use some of that money to give her a raise! ...
Read moreEPO was great, enjoyed it very much. However, I did not know they don't do repairs and was given a card to refer to United VTR for repair of a turntable and stereo receiver. The following is my experience with United VTR that I posted on their website comments section:: CAVEAT EMPTOR.
ca·ve·at emp·tor ˌkavēˌät ˈem(p)ˌtôr/Submit noun the principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made.
My experience: A deposit of $40-80 is required. Mine was $120 for 2 items, both old ('70's era Sanyo turntable and Hitachi receiver, nothing fancy). When I returned to pick up my items I was told that to fix both would cost $250 PER ITEM.
Furthermore I would not get my deposit of $120 back unless I applied it to their repair charges.
In sum, I would have had to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I decided to walk out and swallow the $120--which he (Mr. Tom) claimed was warranted as "the technician spent 3 hours" on the diagnostic check. I personally doubt that 3 hours were spent on 2 items..
So, CAVEAT EMPTOR. I bought a brand-new Audio-Technica turntable with Yamaha receiver for $246 total, quite a lot cheaper than the...
