Moving into the area in a month so Iāve been a couple times recently in between job interviews and apartment showings, just to see how the ice was and to find my home rink. Both times the ice was all carved up, not smooth. Yesterday (Thursday 3PM) there were mayybeeee like 8 people on the ice and it was still all carved up and also the rink must be leaking or something because all the walls have condensation that was on the ground all around so they had it blocked off from the outside.
But most importantly my main concern is that the very first time we went just to check out the mall and the rink, there were SOOOOOOOO many people. It was a Sunday afternoon so I get it, a lot of people are moving around and I think there may have been a few parties so they were all huddled up and hanging out in the seating area while the kids skated. But my thing is that you have other rinks that are still implementing covid precautions, while the employees here donāt even seem to care because theyāre just playing around in the back like they donāt have a job. I wonāt be here to skate probably ever. I also hear the skates are bad but I havenāt verified this for myself and by the time Iād even THINK about skating here Iād have my own custom skates so that wouldnāt be a problem.
Last thing, donāt be fooled by a reply from ISMC to another review on here that says āWeāre sorry you had a rough time etc, etc. Weāre competitively priced to others in the area.ā No theyāre not. Go to Aerodrome, theyāre the cheapest around with the best customer service, and not much farther out. Thereās only like 5 rinks in Houston. Galleria + Memorial City are the two most expensive. Donāt act like people donāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was really excited for the 21+ skate day since Iāve been enjoying the public sessions here, but unfortunately, the adult skating community was surprisingly unkind. Iād been warned by other skaters that Memorialās adult group can be cliquey and mean and thatās exactly what I encountered.
I politely asked a group of three older skaters where the free coffee was, and one of them immediately snapped at me for wearing headphones. I double-checked with a staff member to confirm that headphones werenāt against any rink rules (they arenāt), and had already asked the free coach questions earlier during the session - who would have said something had headphones been an issue.
Despite that, one of the women followed me and continued to confront me even after I asked her multiple times to leave me alone. It crossed the line from āhelpful feedbackā to harassment.
Itās a shame, because the rink itself is fine and the staff has been kind. But the atmosphere at this event made me feel very unwelcome and I wonāt be coming back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe place is great and not expensive the problem comes from the lack of supervision. I've gone 3 times and will never come back because of the kids. For whatever reason a lot of the kids that go here decide to block the wall and not let you pass and no one does anything about it. The staff doesn't tell them to move and the parents don't care to watch their children. It has happened to me all 3 times I came with the last time resulting in a broken leg because 4 kids decided to block the wall and refuse to move when I wanted to exit the ice rink. I went around them but ine of them skated past me and knocked into me causing me to fall resulting in a broken leg. Staff still didn't say anything to the kids despite them causing an injury and while at the time we didn't know I'd broken a bone the fact that staff and parents let them do this is not safe not just for beginners like myself but for...
