The Silos at Sawyer Yards is a hidden gem in Houston! Established in 2005, this art studio-based shopping center is a creative haven housed in 6 repurposed industrial buildings. The campus is a dynamic space where local artists unleash their talents across various mediums, from paintings and sculptures to ceramics, glass, mosaic, photography, mixed media, and jewelry. The second Saturday of each month is a treat, as artists open their studios to the public from 12-5pm. One standout feature is Art Alley, adorned with captivating street murals that lead visitors into a world of visual delights. Houston's reputation for street art finds a fitting showcase here, creating an immersive and Instagram-worthy experience. A giant 35 foot three multi-colored letters "ART" Sculpture by David Adickes’ is establish on the premise of Sawyer Yards. On the base of Adickes’ enormous sculpture are names of many historical artists with a spot that reads “Your name here,” written in gold lettering. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the passion of the artists is palpable. Whether you're a seasoned art enthusiast or just looking for a refreshing cultural experience, The Silos at Sawyer Yards is a must-visit.

Lots of artwork. Lots of gravel and uneven surfaces and no ramps. Not so great for accessibility. I saw some amazing outdoor 'graffiti art'. Beautiful murals. There were vendors of handmade products of various kinds: Jewelry, soaps, candles, and bath scents. Inside the various warehouses were sculptors, painters, and crafters. The hallways of the buildings were lined with art and artists also had individual rooms or 'galleries". There was natural light and lots of people looking. It was actually quite busy, even at 2pm when it was too hot to be outside perusing the crafts booths. Some breweries and bars are nearby. They have foodie-type dining. One could make a whole day of it, but I think it is better to see the work a bit at a time. There is so much variety. Looking at an artist's work might take some time as you study the work to see the meaning/purpose/beauty or lack thereof. The artists at the Silos are definitely worth more than one glance.

We always enjoy visiting the Silos Sawyer Yards studios. It’s an excellent place to find original art and meet the artist, share thoughts about their individual artistic passion. I went this last Saturday which was a special event. There was a lot of buzz around the galleries. There were several offering snacks, wine and even live music. I encourage all art lovers to visit the Silos at Sawyer Yards. It’s a great place to pass the time with friends, family, lovers etc. You will surely find something you’ll love.
