I heard there was a new pho place in the Heights area, and I had to try it! I saw it was located at Sawyer Yards, a creative campus full of industrial warehouses near to downtown. I've never actually heard of this area, but I saw there were many art studios, galleries, restaurants, fitness gyms, breweries, and there was even a public art plaza! It looks very new, clean, and there's plenty of parking. Okay, back to the pho.
The restaurant is actually pretty nice. It has an industrial design, and offers counter service (order and pay at the counter before they serve you). I looked over their menu, and I ordered the Eye Round Steak Noodle Soup (Pho Tai) for $8. My girlfriend went with the Combination Noodle Soup (Pho Dac Biet) for $10. We also ordered a cold Jasmine Green Tea with Tapioca ($3.75) and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($4).
There is plenty of seating indoors as well as an outdoor patio. They also had a "vegetable station" with unlimited Thai basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños, and limes where you serve yourself toppings for your noodle soups. We sat inside, and our food and drinks arrived pretty quickly.
The first thing we noticed was that the pho broth was super bland. I had to add some pepper and a bit of fish sauce to make it a bit saltier. It was a lot better after this. The meat quality of my Eye Round Steak was pretty good though. The Jasmine Green Tea was refreshing, and although it was completely sugar-free, adding the tapioca added a good amount sweet. I thought their Vietnamese Iced Coffee was definitely too sweet for me though. I wish they served it the authentic way, so you could customize the amount of condensed milk in it. However, it seemed pre-made...
Local Pho gains bonus points for the amount of parking, location inside the Inner Loop, and being nice and clean. If you're looking for a more authentic Vietnamese experience with better food in the Heights area, you can go to Pho Binh nearby. However, this place is good what for it is. I can honestly say most Vietnamese people wouldn't eat here though (my girlfriend is...
Read moreWhat do you get when you go to a place called Local Pho? The specialty pho, of course! The combination pho was amazing. I came here with a friend and we both had a bowl. He really enjoyed it, too. The broth was very nice and light (as opposed to heavy and oily), but deep with flavor. We also had some spring rolls and egg rolls, which were very nice. A seriously good dinner. To top it all off, we got Thai macha green tea. I heard it was good, but have never had it before. Boy was it delicious. You've got to try it. You can't really ask for more from a pho shop. They also have a few great beers on tap, many of them craft, so you know they're not messing around. I've heard their banh mi sandwiches are fantastic, so I'll have to try that another time. Along with all of that, the cleanliness and the interior design of the place is so nice. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a new...
Read moreWow! I wish my review could be based on their food... Instead it’s the service or the lack of! We arrive at 8, they close at 9 and they have 3 sandwiches left for the day. Instead of taking our order first as we were at the order counter, another employee went and took the order of those behind us. That’s when it went south. The sandwiches we were ordering at the order here counter was just given to the people behind us.
So, we actually have no clue what the food was like because we were dismissed.
It’s a shame because we had been planning all day to bring my sister who lives in Colorado here for a sandwich that she would have loved!
Instead, we’re at Gus’ Famous Fried Chicken eating food that was ordered and prepared for us not the people behind us. Gus’ chicken is the bomb though! You all should come here and try it. Good spicy fresh hot chicken with delicious baked beans...
