I very rarely take the time to review food establishments but would like to relay my experience with Awesome Bites-which should be a WHAT NOT TO DO case study for business school. Last Thursday, October 27th, a friend and I drove from Sugar Land to try out some treats to decide what to order for a friend's 60th birthday who is gluten and dairy free. The girl helping us was nice enough and told us that Awesome Bites sells a "donut cake" as well as a cookie cake but that all orders must be made online. We were told that the bakery needed one week notice for all cake orders (or at least for the donut cake-I don't want to misquote). We were one day short of that week, needing it for this Wednesday, the 5th. There was no budging on that time period from the salesperson BUT she said that when we ordered online we could pay a $10 surcharge PER DAY that we were short of the full week. So, in effect, it wasn't that the cake couldn't be made, it was just a decision to do it this way. We decided that despite the already steep price for the size of the cake, we would go home and order the donut cake online and pay the additional $10 bringing the cake price to $68. When I got online later that afternoon to order the cake, there was nowhere on the site to make it a "rush" order and the pickup date kept showing Thursday, the 3rd -the full week away instead of Wednesday, the 2nd. So, I decided to call the store. The first call went to a message that said the voicemail was full. Number one business mistake-giving customers no way to leave a message. I called back a few minutes later and spoke with a sweet girl who apologized profusely for being new and for not being able to tell me how to do the rush order. She stated that she had texted the manager Julia, who did not answer, and the owner, Jennifer who also did not answer. She felt terrible and assured me that she would leave a written message with my cell phone number and my issue and that I would be promptly called back the following morning when the Julia, the manager was in to arrange the order. Before I hung up, I also told this sweet girl that the voicemail was full and she thanked me for telling her and stated that she would notify the owner right away. I never received a call back from anyone at the store. I waited a few days (having given up on the order and going elsewhere, where my business might be important), but as of today, 5 days later, still no call. When I just called right now to leave them a message to let them know how disgusted I was-guess what??? The voicemail is STILL full. The other place I ordered from instead, Crumbville, TX, had an issue with dates on their online ordering page and I emailed the owner and she got back to me later that night, during the days the bakery was closed to personally tell me that she would handle the order and adjust the date. That's the difference between a good business person and what I have received from Awesome Bites. I gave the company 2 stars and not one, because of two things. The chocolate donut we tried was very, very good (although the blondie was what you expect gluten free to taste like), and the salesperson I spoke with on the phone was engaged and really tried to help me. But, we won't be back and I truly do hope the owners read this review, since apparently that is the only way to get them to know what...
Read moreLOVE THIS BAKERY! As someone with severe egg, peanut, and tree nut allergies, it’s super uncommon to be able to walk into a bakery, much less an establishment where I could eat everything in the entire store! They had so many options of different baked goods and ice creams to try! I cannot express how thankful I am for finding this shop and how amazing everyone there is!!
Most products made in the store are made from scratch and extra precautions are taken to ensure that products coming from vendors are safe for those with allergies.
The staff was super kind and helpful; they also made it a point to ask if anyone in our party had food allergies before ordering. I could tell they really cared about what they do and took their time to make and package their products.
During my stay in Houston, I tried the chocolate, powdered blueberry lavender, and cinnamon roll donuts- which are only sold on Wednesdays and are must when visiting the shop.
I really enjoyed the assortment of n’ice cream they had available daily- I tried the flavors everyday is awesome, chocolate olive oil, and lemon strawberry all of which were delicious. Highly recommend getting your ice cream in waffle cone :)
My family got a log cake, which has everything is awesome and chocolate olive oil ice cream flavors wrapped in cookie dough. It was fantastic! Get there early to snag one before they’re sold out!
I also tried a double chocolate cookie, cookie monster shake, beanie bar cookie cake slice, and the cold brew with oat milk and vanilla syrup during my trip, all of which were incredible.
Everything I ordered I absolutely loved! My family members who do not have any allergies or intolerances could not believe that a lot of these products were top 9 allergen free. They have clearly taken their time perfecting their recipes!
Whether you have food allergies or not, I cannot recommend this spot enough! It was definitely worth the trip from out of town and will be returning super soon! Thanks for the AWESOME experience...
Read moreI LOVE this place SO much! Their donuts and cupcakes are absolutely delicious! Their lavender ice cream is amazing and creamy. It’s truly a unique flavor. The shop is decorated super cute and has seating available outside to enjoy your treat. I live out in Cypress and make the trip over to get their donuts or ice cream cakes for my kid’s birthday parties or really anyone I’m giving a cake to! The cake is soft and not overly sweet. The flavors blend nicely together so each bite is yummy and smooth.
The customer service is way better now. I have been coming for the past few years. I’m not sure if they still have a point system, but a while back I spent over a $100 on treats and I realized I hadn’t put in my information to get my points. So I asked if the points could be added to my account. The girl said yes, but I was confused on how they were when she didn’t ask for me to put in my phone number. So I asked how were they added without my phone number and she got annoyed and didn’t really know how to answer me. She said “they are just added”. I didn’t even use a card to pay I used cash. I asked her to get her manager and she rolled her eyes and turned back to get someone. She said there was no one available to help so I left feeling upset. I really make the effort to support small businesses and had drove over 40 minutes to buy from there passing other shops I could have gone to and I didn’t get the stupid points lol. Anyways, they have new staff now and they are super friendly...
