My first impression of Donny's was great. Everyone was friendly and helpful and even offered refreshments while we waited. I needed to have my wedding rings resized, and I was impressed when I picked them up. I think they looked better than when I got them. But over the next day, it felt like they were still too big. The rings were spinning so badly that 90% of the time, the stones were on the underside of my palm. I picked them up on a Friday, so we called Monday and they told us to come back and they would fix it. The second I walked in, I was met with resistance about my issue. I was repeatedly told that the size was correct (we had sized from a way too big 8.5 to 7.5), and he kept trying to demonstrate on my hand that the size was correct. I told him, however, that how it fit when I was standing there at that moment was not the norm. In fact, he was probably witnessing my finger at its most swollen size. I tried telling him that 90% of the time it's spinning. All I got back was how it was the correct size, even his rings spin, and I would regret resizing them when summer comes. He kept saying he would make things right and do what I wanted, but still kept insisting that I was wrong and wouldn't acknowledge my problem. I said the problem was the spinning, but there seemed to be no attempt to try to address that concern, but rather dismiss it. He sent me out of the store with a temporary ring guard, which even when I tried asking him questions about the longevity of that, it seemed like I was being dismissed. I ended up leaving the store crying. My husband called back and spoke to them later, because even with the ring guard, I still felt like there was some spinning. Like it was ok, but still had room enough to spin. So they said they would resize it again free of charge. That is great and all, but I feel like he wasn't trying to work with me to address my problem, but was only doing this to get the good review. After some googling, I read about the sizing beads to help keep top heavy rings from turning. Why wasn't this mentioned as a solution (or explained that it could but not for my specific rings)? Regardless, I knew I wanted it smaller. I had my husband bring it back because I was still upset, but even when they told us they would do whatever we wanted, they still kept pushing back and insisting they were right. We asked for them to take it to 7.25, but shortly after called to say we wanted to go to 7 instead. Even in this phone call, there continued to be push back. We had to shut the conversation down by insisting we want it at size 7, and that was that. Well, surprise surprise (not), size 7 seems to have been a perfect fit. It still has a very slight amount of spinning when it's cold, but only to the side of my finger. Before it was literally on the underside of my hand 90% of the time. Now, look, if I come and regret it in the summer, that's on me, but the way it's been wearing so far, I sincerely think it's highly unlikely my fingers will swell that much more for it to be an issue. It's hard for me to give a better rating because I felt so disrespected during this process, though. I wanted him to work with me and use his expertise to solve my problem, not to dismiss my problem because he knows better. The only reason I'm not giving it a lower rating is because he did beautiful work, they were otherwise very friendly, and he did make it right. I just think everyone in the store needs to listen to the customer more and work with us, not just keep insisting you...
Read moreTook my wedding ring set that I got online in to get soldered together and resized. I had been shopping around different places trying to get quotes (the place I’d visited just before this was ridiculously expensive and cost more than the ring itself- I was getting discouraged) and stumbled upon Donny’s. Right away he greeted me and was very energetic and welcoming. Wanted to know more about me and talked to me a ton- gave me a bunch of compliments and really built me up. Took the plain wedding band I was wearing and had it cleaned for me. I kept asking how much it would cost before I handed it over thinking he was trying to talk me into this and then turn around and charge me for it but he said it was free. He offered me something to drink and was just super personable, eccentric, and fun. Now I’m sure there are some types of people who may not like this sort of interaction and think it’s over the top and phony. Even I was in shock a bit and skeptical at first as most people I meet don’t behave like this- but am glad I rode it out. I thoroughly enjoyed his energy and it was refreshing to meet someone who really puts an effort into his customers and his job. Too many workers these days just aren’t friendly or helpful in the least, have no customer service skills, and would rather be somewhere else and make no effort to hide that fact. I’m glad he knows what works for him and his business and delivers it consistently and well. Anyways- back to the rings. I had ordered a size 6 online as I knew that a 5 is too small for me. Donny used his ring sizer and determined that I was a 5.25. I kept worrying that this would be too tight if I ate a lot of salt or it was hot outside and asked if I should consider a 5.5 instead. He said maybe I was right since he’d be soldering them together. (I think wider rings fit more snugly/are harder to get on/off than thinner bands.) When I got it back it looked great. Took it home and I wear it whenever I go out. (I wear my plain wedding band for around the house.) Unfortunately I should have taken Donny’s advice and not second guessed him as I’m literally always cold and the bands are still a bit loose. It’s better than it was, but once I have the money I’ll get them resized to a 5.25. Happy to give him my business again when I do. Him and his wife...
Read moreI’ve been to Donny’s several times for watch repairs and couldn’t be happier with their services. I first visited Donny’s in 2015 and was highly impressed with their old school approach to customer service. There were three people working that day and even though they all had customers, all three employees made eye contact with me, smiled and said hello. They offered me something to drink (water or coffee) while I waited for my watch. While I waited, they all made small talk with me. Once my watch was ready, I paid and as I departed, everyone said goodbye. A few days later I received a handwritten thank you note. Due to my experience at Donny’s, I’ve been back three more times to have our watches repaired/batteries replaced. In some instances, I could have changed my battery for free at another store but I chose to go with Donny’s because (1) I wanted to give them the business, and (2) I love their customer service. In today’s rapidly changing way of shopping (Amazon, Target, online, etc.), Donny’s is a throw back to dying profession -- small business with a stellar approach to creating and fostering relationships with...
