This is a 5-star review because our (4 of us) dining experience was outstanding in every respect from start to finish. The review is long because it justifies the rating. Yes, it would seem pricy to some, but if you are looking for cheap, I suggest any one of the fast-food restaurants in the area. Let's define "pricey": Excluding two bottles of alcoholic Korean drink and a generous tip, the cost was about $25 per person for our table. That's actually a great value for what you get. It was absolutely worth every penny for us. Plan for 1-2 hours because the meat is cooked at your table. I read a few reviews that complained of slow service or scant offerings. I cannot attest to either of these. It is, after all, "all you can eat." We did not have a single offering that I'd label scant or too small. The flow of our various food items was like a well-oiled machine. Details: We arrived at about 6 PM and were seated immediately (they take reservations only for parties of 8 or more). We were in a booth, which was isolated from other booths by a plexiglass shield. Tables were widely dispersed (with Covid-compliant seating). The restaurant was clean, and orderly throughout. Restrooms are a good indicator of overall cleanliness. They were immaculate. I observed employees moving about efficiently and with purpose. I also observed the manager helping out, definitely setting a sterling example for his employees. The hostess took initial drink orders when she seated us. I asked for an adult drink - something Korean. I don't know what it was called, but I think it was the only Korean offering. It came in an about 16 oz bottle and a shot glass (chug or sip) but beware, especially if you are driving - it was powerful and smooth and will sneak up on you. I had a designated driver. Taylor was our server - in a word, incredible! Drink delivery was timely and correct. Taylor gave a concise explanation about what to expect and how the process worked. He made a few recommendations then immediately took our meat and side orders. Within a minute or two, food started arriving at our table. Taylor checked back several times, including just before we finished eating each meat selection. We tried 4 different ones. By the time we finished eating a meat selection, the next one was there. The raw meats are intentionally thin, which helps facilitate cooking and makes it easy to cut it into bite-sized pieces with shears for all to share. Virtually everything was mouth-watering good. We all agreed that a repeat performance would be planned. If you want great food, excellent service, and a unique dining experience - or maybe want to impress your date - this is the...
Read moreStone Age Korean BBQ is a great first effort at becoming a very successful KBBQ place. For a smaller city like Huntsville, it has HUGE potential.
The restaurant is primarily an all-you-can-eat. There is a full service bar as well (definitely gets a lot more traffic during dinner). The experience for lunch was great. I want to say it was 19.99 USD for lunch and it's 32 USD for dinner...coupled with a few drinks it looks like dinner could end up being double the price or more! Lunch is a bargain.
To make sure meat isn't wasted, typically you order two small plates worth of meat at a time. The server will turn on your grill and let it heat while they take your drink orders, meat orders, and orders for side dishes. Some of the side dishes really do need some clarification. A chive salad is more of a red onion salad. The "rice cake" is theokbokki (spicy sweet rice cakes).
I've been here twice for lunch and the experience was very different for both. I could tell the servers don't have the same level of training or knowledge of the cuisine. Not their fault, just an observation...a lot of the servers seem like they haven't worked there too long and probably have never been exposed to Korean BBQ.
When the head of house showed us to our table my mother asked to move one table over so we could social distance from another party. The gentlemen said that was not possible. We waited for our server and asked him if we could move and it was no problem at all.
I have exclusively ordered their bulgogi. It is marinated correctly and doesn't have a lot of fat, i.e. the quality of the meat is good. Some of the side dishes were lacking in quality. For example, we got a side order of the potato salad, and you could tell it was old (it had a sour taste). You can get a small beef soup as a side, and it was good! They do not have a kimchi soup or a soy bean soup, which is pretty typical and I was a little surprised they didn't make it.
You can ask for lettuce and make a typical lettuce wrap as you normally would for a KBBQ place, but all they have is romaine. Romaine is cheaper and I'm sure that's exactly why they have it, but you would normally see a red leaf lettuce, some Perilla leaves, or other variety. I have straight up brought my own lettuce, cucumbers, ssampjang, and garlic cloves to enhance the meal. The servers didn't seem to mind.
All in all, it was a great experience and my friends and family enjoyed it. Maybe this feedback will be helpful! I will definitely come back. I am on team Stone Age for sure and I want it to be...
Read moreStone age Korean BBQ was recommended to me by a friend so I figured I would give it a try. I took my brother there with me and when we first arrived to the restaurant upon entering there was a foul smell almost like sewage, so I looked around for the score card and noticed the score card was a 94 and decided, okay, I'll stay and eat. Well, the service was not the best but not the worst I've ever had. Waited about 20 minutes before a server came to the table to take our drink order and place our food order. Once the food arrived we ordered spicy chicken, it was decent portion the only issue was the server kept turning the grill up to high and the food was getting over cooked on the outside and catching on fire but not getting properly cooked on the inside. The next issue was the amount of flies in the restaurant was extremely bad I counted over 6 flies flying around our food and landing on the table as we were eating. Then the next order was the stone age steak which again was a decent portion and the steak was good and turned out nicely. The next order was cajun shrimp but the server couldn't get the grill to start up so he removed the hot plate and the ring around the gas burner he took a napkin and the pair of scissors he was using to cut our meat with and dipped in down in the grill bottom, I looked down in there and it had some nasty water mixed with meat oil in there from the food that had been cooked on that grill. After dipping the napkin in the dirty water he then wipes the side of the grill inside, I believe to clean the gas line for fuel flow again to restart the grill. After he was finished wiping the grill he then lifted out the napkin with the scissors which was dripping that nasy water right across our little trays of sauces and pickled veggies dripping it all in there 🤮 so I just sat there looking at my brother to see if he also was seeing what I was seeing. After that I was pretty much done eating. At this time needed to go to the restaurant and wasn't shocked to see the restroom wasn't clean, I entered the stall and there was a dirty dish rag hanging from the poll by the toilet and the toilet was full with urine all over the seat. I did not even bother asking to speak to a manager and just paid my bill and left. I do not know how this restaurant has a 94 score and needs to be inspected again. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this...
