Owens (Jesse) Park — Attraction in Hyde Park Township

The facility is clean and in good condition. The cost to use the gym is reasonable. My concerns are about the programs offered to the public. One such program is the program/class for leisure education available to people with intellectual disabilities. I am the parent/care taker of a thirty six year old man, who has Autism and intellectual disabilities. I am a senior who accessed the program to meet his need for activities and socialization during the day. The program is set up in an unwelcoming manner for those who need it. The population using it needs supervision and support throughout the day. The class is for three hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from one o'clock to four o'clock. The staff does not seem to be well trained to work with people with disabilities. The structure of the activities is not well planned, the patrons experience periods where they sit and stare, doing nothing. While waiting to go home.I suggested some leisure activity, such as memory games, or domino games, to get the individuals interacting with each other.I felt unwelcome by the program because I travel a good distance to bring my son to the program, only to be told I cannot stay for the time he is there so he can return home with me. It does not matter that he needs this program. We are forced to leave the program because we don't live near the park, and use rhe RTA ADA service to travel there. I was told I can't stay there, i cannot hang around the facility, while he is there. I am a senior citizen at 69 years old who dont live nearby, But must leave the facility, which prevents my son from using the facility. Doesnt this defeat the purpose of the reason why the program exists at the facility. The administrators are blinded by the need to keep people out. They know why I am there. I even paid for a...

Nice park, however can we please do a better job of keeping it clean?( I'm not just talking about the park staff. )I like to let my child play as he feels comfortable but I first have to pick up the trash off the play ground every time we go.
