I visited this place 11-24-2024. For starters I will say that everything took a while, we waited for menus and waters 10 minutes we waited for our server to approach us 20-25 minutes (this I will make an exception before we were conversing and I didn’t know what I wanted anyway) and finally the food 30-45 minutes. My date and I purchased breakfast she ordered sausage links with French toast and soft scrambled eggs with cheese. Restaurant was half packed and fully packed by the time we left so again I understand. However when our waitress brought our food out my order was correct but they skimped out on the topping of my build your own skillet, I saw another guys skillet and it was almost falling off his plate he had so much food (could be a regular and just knows how to order). I also had the pancakes which were ok and the chicken sausage which I didn’t particularly care for especially the casing, it taste super processed and had a lot more gristle than I anticipated. My date on the other hand ordered French toast and the waitress brought her a waffle and sausage links with eggs over easy with cheese, this was not what she ordered. Instead of listening to my date and trying to figure it out she argued with my date and told her what she ordered and my date politely corrected and reiterated her order. The waitress came back with scrambled eggs and cheese and the French toast within 2 minutes without apology and I am almost sure that whomever actually ordered that waffle and the eggs over easy received the same plate that my date had just used. We know for sure that my date didn’t touch it or anything but it’d be unequivocally unsanitary if the waitress had given the same food to its rightful customer instead of remaking it. The place is super out dated but the prices are pretty reasonable especially for our current market prices for food these days. I’m interested in trying their other food but a bit leery about their handling practices and professionalism. We couldn’t see the ladies face but she was dark skin with a blue adidas face mask on. The place could also use a refresher, some dry wall, new tables and chairs, paint would go a...

The door spring was broke and kept hitting people in the face. The food was great but the customer service and waiters were terrible. The waiter did not remember our orders. We kept getting wrong orders. The waiter was not listening. My mother was reaching for her wallet to pay and it was not there. The waiter did not assist to find it and the people sitting next to us did not help either. They were automatically suspects due to their behavior. They did not say anything and they did not help to find it. When the group of elderly men got up they again looked suspicious and ask if she wanted to check their pockets. My mother never said anything to them and for them to ask the question. They were being courteous to my mom but she did not see it that way. By the way while we were there another customer Apple watch went missing. 12/30/20- Correction As stated below customer found her watch. I was also informed that my mother received her wallet back in the mail. Someone found it and mailed it back to her. Sorry for the misunderstanding and we will need to do better with keeping our belongings in...

This is just what a classic restaurant should be. Step inside and be transported back to the 1960's with the classic decor. The food was absolutely fantastic! I had one of the specials, Catfish & Spaghetti with Chicken & Rice soup.

First off the soup. It was very tasty with large pieces of chicken inside. It is definitely made in house.

Then the main course. The star of the show. The catfish. A massive fillet which was fresh and tasted great. It was covered in a thin but very flavorful cornmeal breading. It was not greasy, everything was prepared well.

It was served with a heaping bowl of spaghetti topped with a very flavorful sauce that had to be a home recipe again.

The place was very busy, it is clearly the local neighborhood spot.

The service was quick and all the staff were extremely friendly. And check out the burlwood counter!

This may be become my go to place on the South Side. It's...

This was my 1st time here. First times leave a lasting impression, which is why it’s important to always make the 1st impression the best impression. The atmosphere & vibe were friendly & cozy. The food was delicious. However, the customer service was not up to par. Melissa M. was my server. I sat at the bar. She asked what I wanted to eat, but didn’t bring silverware or napkins. I had to ask another server for napkins. And I had to ask her for silverware when she brought me my food. Not long after I sat down an elderly man came in & sat close to me. She provided him w/ napkins & silverware. She was attentive to him, but not me. She even asked him how was everything, but didn’t ask me nor come to check on me the entire stay. I sat there for about 30 min before getting a to-go box to take my leftovers home. She also was on her phone, which is very unprofessional.

The food was delicious, I had the t bone steak which was cooked medium as I request it, the grits were creamy and the biscuit was soooo good, as well as their cream of chicken noodle soup. I also tasted the salmon croquettes which were amazing. However the atmosphere, well the place is n older restaurant that has not been updated and is ok, but the lady at the counter was super rude, kept making disrespectful comments which we ignored because we were there to eat. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive, although the comments on how much food we ordered were uncalled for. I know I’m fat and I’m here to eat, not to be judged! So if you do get food from here, I would suggest order to go.
