We love coming up to Idyllwild! We have come in July when the grounds are packed, and in November when it's 50% full. Wood burning Fires and charcoal grills have been banned this year both times we came, so we brought propane cooktops and a propane fire pit to hang out by at night. The sites are a bit small and often on hills or inclines...fine for tent camping, but few spots are big enough for our truck camper. Very few if any are big enough for a trailer or 5th wheel. Every site does have a metal picnic table you can move around, and a wood firepit with fold over grill top (for when you are allowed to burn wood fires). What we love is how this campground is so close to the cute little Idylwild town (like 1.5 miles), there's pine trees that make you feel like you're in NorCal yet you're only a couple hours from San Diego or LA, there's squirrels, wood peckers, and wildlife abundance, and there hiking trailheads inside the campground. The bathrooms are clean, and the showers are hot. The rangers are really helpful and friendly as well. There's also a volleyball court at the day use area. Other than that, campground was littered with trash, couldn’t have a campfire...
