River Rock Retreat — Hotel in Idyllwild-Pine Cove

The place is clean, and it's near town. However, he didn't mention they are building a second unit on the lot making it a bit crowded. Also, this unit is on a busy street, which is worrisome if you have children.

All that aside, the owner was upset because we had 2 extra small children with us, that we did not put on our reservation, by accident. Even though we left the property in good condition he stole our security deposit. The contract specifically states deposit is for security against damage not to be held at the owner's discretion if he is unhappy about something. It does say they can evict you without refund if you have extra guests, he said he knew we had an extra guest but didn't want to do that, but after the fact without me agreeing, or ever being notified kept my deposit.

I understand why he was upset that we had extra guests a 2 year old, and 6-month old boy, but I did not do it intentionally, I was just moving to fast on his website. He chooses not to say anything to me while I was there, then held my deposit, even though the contract clearly states that we, not the appropriate remedy. It's a decent place to stay, but beware that owner will take your deposit if you do anything he doesn't like, even if you leave the property in...

This house felt like our own cozy home! With 3 bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms, a fully-stocked kitchen, dining room and living room with cozy fireplace we had plenty of room to enjoy each other and to have solitude when we wanted. Two tv's and internet kept us connected to the outside world. We could walk to town or the coffee spot right down the street. Every detail was perfect... in fact, this as the BEST vrbo that we've stayed in... and that's saying sometime since we travel a lot. Our host Gary replied immediately and was truly welcoming. A last-minute decision, we were fortunate to discover that River Rock Retreat was available when we wanted to get away. Owner Gary Agner could not have been more gracious and accommodating. The cabin is warm, cozy and comfortable; beautifully, tastefully upgraded, but still retaining what now is considered "vintage" charm. While located on the main highway leading into town, it is set back on the property and well-enough insulated that traffic noise was not significant.
