I was a chaperone on my child's field trip today, and felt it was necessary to leave a review on how unprofessional our tour guide was. She was so incredibly rude towards the children. I was honestly so shocked at how comfortable she was with yelling at someone else's children. It bothered me so much that I had a hard time enjoying the experience and was looking forward to learning more about Harrison. At one point she was leaned over Harrison's daughter's bed yelling , "What are you doing?!" at the kids who touched the bed as they were standing up to leave the room. Yes, they were told not to touch anything and we were all reminding them but the way she yelled at the children was just uncalled for. After the tour was over she even tried justifying herself by coming up to me and saying, "I apologize for all the yelling. We just have to keep order." I'm sure my face said it all through out the tour because why else would she approach me like that and then thinks that justifies yelling at children the way she was. This would've been such an awesome educational experience had the tour guide showed more patience towards them. I don't even remember her name but she was a blonde with shoulder...

My family and I recently visited President Benjamin Harrison's Home on the Old Northside of Indianapolis. It was a great, educational experience for our whole family. Our volunteer tour guide, Jacob, did a wonderful job of not only guiding us through the home, but providing insights into the rich historical context we were walking through. In particular, he did a great job of engaging my children during the tour, making the experience all the more relevant to them. The home itself has been well maintained with lots of original furniture and artifacts of great importance to both the state and nation. Where decorations or furniture had to be reproduced, care was taken to ensure it was true to the time period. I regret that this was my first time visiting the Presidential site despite living in Indianapolis for nearly 40 years. I should have come sooner. It's an underappreciated historical gem within our city. If you're interested in history or an educational family activity, a visit to this presidential site is well worth your time. My family and I will...

Two years ago my family and I purchased tickets to this lovely house last minute. We arrived to find we accidentally purchased tickets for the following day by mistake & the museum was closed. Realizing OUR mistake the guide took us around the house anyhow ! It was so kind of him!

Our tour with this incredible docent/historian was fabulous. He did not shorten the tour or rush us in any way. We asked a ton of questions and he answered them all. He was engaging, funny, personable & filled with so many interesting stories & facts.

Our family talked about the house, it beauty, that yards too, its history & what we learned on our long drive home. By far our favorite presidential site or historic home tour. The experience inspired read about President Harrison and learn more of him and his family.

A final note: it is important to know that this museum is the only Presidential home not financial supported like others - so be sure to give a little extra if you are able, will truly be appreciated by those who lovingly tend to & preserve this beautiful home &...

I'm a history buff and since I'm in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana for a short stay I decided to visit the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, home of the 23rd President of the United States. A national historic landmark, the stately 1875 mansion has been restored with over 10,000 artifacts, including furniture, clothing and artwork. This Victorian home takes you back in time and since the Harrisons were members of the elite of Indianapolis, you get to see how the other half lived in the late 1800s. Really enjoyed the tour of all 3 floors of the mansion. The tour guide was excellent. If you're visiting Indianapolis anytime in the near future, carve out a couple of hours to travel back to the Gilded Age and see the home of the 23rd President.

Our docent is 21 years old and incredibly informed. I brought my camera which was fine. Just no flash photography. My children are 9 and 10 and they both held on and didn't get bored the entire time. There are some very steep stairs you will climb, though I thought I read about an elevator. I was a little disappointed to learn that many of the artifacts aren't original to the home. Also, I think one of the side notes our docent told us was incorrect. Helen Keller signed a document. She mentioned her teacher as Alice. It's Annie Sullivan. But not a whole lot to do with our visit, either. Editing to thank the museum for replying! Our docent led me to believe it swung in the other direction. Fantastic! I still ended up taking 256 photos!
