I recently visited Iowa City Market, also known as Sycamore Mall, and was quite disappointed with the current state of the facility. It appears to be under new management, and unfortunately, maintenance seems to be a low priority.
The parking lot is in terrible condition, with massive potholes and no visible parking lines, making it challenging to navigate. The evening lighting is sporadic, with some areas well-lit and others completely dark, which poses a safety risk for visitors.
Outside the mall, there is a noticeable lack of cleanliness and upkeep. The entry doors are extremely dirty, and it is evident that there is no staff present to maintain the area, creating an unsupervised and neglected environment.
I strongly believe that the mall could benefit from having a full-time staff member dedicated to monitoring the safety and cleanliness of the premises. Additionally, the absence of public restrooms is a significant inconvenience for shoppers.
Overall, I feel that the management needs to make significant improvements to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for visitors to Iowa City...
Read moreI was very disappointed with the state of this shopping center. I had a difficult time locating the retailer (Sally's Beauty Supply) I was looking for as they did not have signage outside of the store. If my phone's GPS had not been insistent and I had not called the store directly, I would have left and gone elsewhere. The inside of this mall was very upsetting as well. It was dark and dirty and smelled. There were homeless people in the corridors and bathrooms as well. Please do not mis-read this comment. I do not have a problem with people taking shelter as long as they have a safe, clean environment to be in. I would like to see this and all Malls with empty retail space use at least one of them as a shelter. That would be a Win-Win for all. Just PLEASE don't throw them back out on the street like everyone else does. Your maintenance people could step it up a few notches by fixing the lighting and...
Read moreWhat was Sycamore Mall is being made over into a different place. Growing all the time with stores relocating here. The Dollar Store which is the 21st Century five and dime and then some, Panera's great breads, sweets and soups and Marcus Sycamore Cinema with 12 screen movie theater as well as Pizza Ranch's fried Chicken, pizza, delivery and buffet are strong draws. I stopped going to cinemas because of the high prices, uncomfortable seating and the loss of an experience. The cinema here has decent seats, clean theaters and ample rest rooms. No one beats home for comfort, ambiance and price but the Marcus Cinema chain are giving a good go. . Different mall but still plenty parking, accessible by IA City Transit are...
