Wow! They had O-Toro (Blue fin fatty tuna) on special! This is really hard to find. One piece of this sashimi was $8 and worth every penny. Never had it before, and it had been many years for hubby. If they ever have o-toro, it is a MUST try! The other sashimis are less speedy ranging from $2.50 - $6.00.
Lots to choose from. The standard fare: tuna, yellow tail, salmon, white tail, shrimp, scallops, octopus, sea urchin, lobster, flying fish & salmon roes, etc, plus various carpaccios.
I got the sashimi appetizer, seaweed salad, chu-toro, red & white tuna, & salmon sashimis as well.
Hubby ordered salmon roe, salmon sashimi, & salmon avocado roll.
All very fresh, nice presentation, hit the spot. With hot, weak green tea it all came to $50.00 for two. Service was very fast & friendly. Our server answered our questions patiently, too.
They have many cooked & seared selections as well & an amazing selection of exotic & unusual rolls & hand rolls, plus ramen, salads, desserts, beer & wines, sparkling wines & waters, also. Something for everyone.
Our server at the end described an expensive but authentic Japanese kind of seared beef they have that she highly recommended. I'll have to go back and try that next time. Sounded like she was calling it lamb. But she said it was beef.
We were traveling & took a chance on this spot. Very happy with our experience. Rubbed the HoTai belly on the way out for more good luck. Would definitely recommend to other sushi...
Read moreI visited for dinner at 7pm, when I walked in I was not greeted by anybody, then a young boy stepped from behind the counter and asked me how many. I was then seated at the sushi bar by a server. Another server came and asked me for my drink request, I got my Sapporo about 10 minutes later. Another server then came to take my food order. It appeared as though the sushi chefs were stressed and there many onlooking patrons looking at their watches wondering where their food was. I then became concerned as to how long I was going to wait for my food. My appetizer came out, the crab rangoon, it was the most glorious crab Rangoon I’ve ever had. They were fresh, hot, and flavorful. The filling was rich, with nice bite sized pieces of crab and scallions. After I finished my appetizer the wait for my entree began. It soon became obvious why everybody was waiting for their food, approximately 10 people came in to pick up take out orders which had taken precedence over seated patrons, however their takeout orders weren’t ready as well. Once my rolls were done the chefs served them directly to me. I would say that the rolls, scallop roll and scorpion roll were a 5/10 at best. The next time I need sushi I will visit a different restaurant however if I want crab Rangoon I’ll go there specifically for that. Cleanliness: the glass on the sushi bar was dirty, the bathrooms looked as though they hadn’t been...

I ate here 9/10/21 with my family for my uncles birthday. We arrived at 6:30 and we all didn't get our appetizers until 8:00, entrees took even longer, coming out spaced apart and cold. I got the Kobe roll and it came out cold soaked in sauce, sour. I ate one bite and that was it for me. Even the Iowa City roll, my old favorite roll here, was bland and tasted old.
The worst part was, the server would walk past and ignore us completely. Even when my grandma would speak up louder they swiftly walked past without acknowledging us.
It's safe to say all of the meat and fish is frozen, very bland tasting so they douse it in sauce.
Overall the service and food was terrible and that really saddens me, I wanted this place to succeed. Oyama was me and my girlfriends GO-TO spot in 2018-2019... its very sad for me to see it go so...
