Wasn’t worth the star I gave… My children and I were issued library cards and regularly attended the library and checked out books as apart of our normal homeschooling routine. My family and I had a routine at this library for months until I was asked to bring in additional documentation that I already turned in for approval in order to receive the library cards. The library clerk said that if I am not a tax payer in Lexington county that I had to go to the library and check out books and use the computers in the county assigned, and that caused for some concern because I had already shown proof of BUSINESS TAX that I pay for a business in Lexington County which I run out of my home. This was very alarming to me also because as I stated earlier my children and I are frequent visitors and regularly checked out books and when I looked at the policy it stated that the application would be reviewed ONCE PER YEAR TO SEE IF THE APPLICANT WAS STILL ELIGIBLE. Well it had not been a year since we had our cards as it was only about 5 months since we had been issued the cards. Upon trying to check out my daughters dork diary books that she loves so much it said that the cards were expired not only did she cut the cards off but failed to give notice that they would be expired I began to question the clerk regarding my concerns and was asked to leave. Not only that This is a library full of Librarians and never once did they make eye contact with my children, ask what my child’s needs are or ask to assist with book finding unless I initiated the contact which is disheartening because as a parent my expectations of a library and librarian were dismissed every time I attended. The only reason I attended this library so frequently is because ironically it has more resources and carries more of the desired material that my children like unlike the other underfunded libraries that don’t… or either can’t get the materials easily accessible like this one. I said all this to say my children were denied books and forced to go elsewhere. Upon visiting another library in hopes to find the books we were denied of we were unsuccessful which left hopeful readers disappointed. Let’s just SAY I honestly don’t think it had ANYTHING TO DO WITH ...
Read moreIrmo Library is a great library, some great books, CDs sold for only fifty cents or a dollar. The female security I find to be constantly walking past the tables I may sit at when I'm finished in the study room. They walk around in the area where I sit and read in the back of the library less than fourty five minutes. They seem to watch rathermore their own kind than anybody else who are not black. Irmo library is not Richland County Library where they really need security because of the major number of people. Irmo library is frequently visit by local residents who come to take care of business and finish completing their work that's all. The female securities in my book taking their security jobs too serious. Relax and...
Read more02-21-25: I usually love this place and have no issues in the past however today while in a study room a older white lady with glasses and a light brown cardigan decided rather than speaking to me like an adult she would be rude and condescending. Someone else finally booked the room so she rudely told me so I start cleaning up and her she comes again to stare at me while I’m packing up. Completely uncalled for. I don’t know what her issue is but if she can not interact with people she does not need to be in a business where that’s what you do. Everyone else is always so nice and considerate, she could learn a thing or two from...
