We arrived today to a packed parking lot. I used to think this restaurant was closed since it often has few people there at times during the week. However, this Sunday was a bit different. The restaurant looks to be run by a couple. The woman sat us, took our orders, and gave us our food/check. A gentleman was in the back cooking.
Service wasn't fast. This is most definitely not fast food. I'd expect to come here and take forty-five minutes to an hour to eat on a busy night at best. However, this means you have plenty of time to chat and take in the decor. We were sat and had to wait a few minutes for drink orders. We both ordered water and I had ordered a iced bubble tea. It never arrived, but I was fine without it. And I was not charged which many other restaurants tend to forget to remove undelivered items. In that time we decided on fresh spring rolls, beef and broccoli and chicken and baby corn stir fries.
Our order was taken and shortly after we were brought small bowls of tom yum broth with mushrooms. This soup was delicious and I could have had a whole bowl. During the middle of finishing our soup the spring rolls arrived. The rolls were huge . I've ordered fresh rolls at Miyo's, Pho Viet, and other Asian/American Asian restaurants in the Columbia area. I love Pho Viet's and these are similar, but larger with more veggies and fresher shrimp. My only complaint was serving it with sweet chili sauce instead of peanut sauce. I saw another appetizer that comes with peanut sauce so I'll have to ask it next time. The roll was fresh and had a thicker wrapper than most I've had. No tearing! After finishing our soup and a spring roll each we had a short wait for our entrees. Mine came out first and it had more baby corn than I have ever seen in any stir fry dish. I was ecstatic and the taste was great. No thick sauce. Just a simple, slightly sweetened sauce. The dish also included onion, carrots, and mushroom which absorbed all that delicious sauce. I could complain about the amount of chicken, but I think we, as Americans, expect more than we should get at restaurants. You don't need three chicken breasts chopped up in any single meal. The beef and broccoli dish came out seconds after the chicken and baby corn. The beef was well cooked and the sauce a slightly richer flavor than the other's from the beef. Plenty of broccoli florets, carrots, and onions. Both entrees were served with sides of white rice. You can upgrade to fried rice for $2.50 or order another bowl of white rice for $1.00. Personally, I see no need as I was there to eat the chicken and vegetables. The rice was a nice palette cleanser and absorbed lots of that tasty sauce. As we neared the end of our meal we were brought out a dish of sliced cantaloupe. I have no clue where they found such a juicy, tender, and sweet cantaloupe! We had bought one recently from Publix and threw it away because it was so tough and lacked sweetness. Overall, I went in with low expectations and came out with a new favorite Asian restaurant.
Service as I stated was not fast, but our drinks were refilled and all the food was fresh and hot. The rice was a little lukewarm, but you can't expect piping hot rice all day long and the warm sauce solved that problem. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The building is very small so the restrooms are tiny, but adequate and well kept. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good stir fry or maybe some curry! I...
Read moreWe have generally enjoyed dining here over the years. This is definitely a unique place and unlike any other, which is its big appeal to us. We appreciate the culture infused atmosphere, their background music and typically generous portions. I even happen to love the mismatched dishes and glasses. Most places could not pull that off, but here, it works! Nothing seems to have changed over the many years that I have been coming here.
The good always tastes very good and is cooked to order.
Do anticipate taking your time as service is slow due to what seems to be a lack of help. I have dined in 2 times in the past 3 months while passing through the area. Both times there was no table service following the drop off of our food. (really) The previous visit someone occasionally was seen in the register area but the most recent visit no one even came out from the back except for when the door opened.
My friend got up by the kitchen entrance to call out loudly repeatedly just to get someone to come back up front so we could request our checks and get boxes. I wondered if the man was possibly even working alone, but feel like there must have been at least one other helping to cook.
*I ordered beef pad Thai and felt I was majorly skimped on the beef portion, getting maybe half of what I was expecting for the cost. Because no one returned to the table I didn't bother...
Read moreI would give this restaurant more than just 5 stars. The food is soooo good, I visit every other week. Yes there's only 1 server, but they know how to take care of you. The food is delicious, and authentic. The spice gets all your sinuses going, you'll sweat and turn red but you won't repent the taste of the food. Make sure to NOT ORDER SPICY if you CAN"T HANDLE EXTREMELY SPICY FOOD. I"M SERIOUS!!! I love crazy hot food, so I'm good (some days I cry, but enjoy it). Tom Yum soup is the best! Giant shrimp pieces for all your shrimp lovers, and tofu (fried or soft) for vegetarians. My favorite is the PINEAPPLE CURRY
