LA Fitness — Attraction in Irvine

I agree with John Bramwell in a previous post with some additional comments/corrections:

In re-closing today by action of Governor Newsom, LA Fitness puts out an Email saying "While we believe we've been operating our clubs in a safe and responsible manner..." Yeah, that's the problem, you believe what you think, not what you're doing. A fallacious statement at best.

You're banking on the nay-sayers who discount the seriousness of this virus and this is the result many are complaining about at all your sites nationwide: You have NOT been operating the clubs in a safe manner and if you're getting away with it, it's your usual minimal effort when it comes to re-investing and keeping up your clubs.

There's no question you're trying to take advantage of 24 Hour Fitness's financial issues and that of the other local gyms; just hanging on till the economy gets better and you'll have a stronghold over the local fitness market- at your existing members' expense! The Sad part is I left 24 years ago for what you've now turned into at this "signature" location: bleh! It's getting on the par of Lake Shore Towers. And we all know how quickly that fell. Yet this is your corporate flagship? Really?

"They have had 2 months to prepare (SCRATCH THAT, 3+ MONTHS TO GET THEIR ACT IN GEAR AND SHOW THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTELE) for reopening during the Corona Virus, and this is all they’ve done:

1. Put some paper on every other machine
2. Closed the sauna
3. Limited lockers
4. Face mask required, but rarely enforced. NOT ENFORCED WHEN I'VE BEEN IN. THEY NEVER HAVE REPS WALK THE FLOORS ESPECIALLY THE 2nd FLOOR.
5. Reduced hours
6. Reduced fitness class sections and sizes

What they have NOT done:

1. Check temperature upon entrance

2. They have NOT Added new hand sanitizer dispensers (there’s only Two on the entire first level gym floor area)

3. They have NOT added new paper towel dispensers and/or machine cleaner concentration

4. They are NOT limiting gym capacity TRUE!

5. I’m glad they’re open but it wouldn’t take a lot of effort to make the gym a safer environment.They have had 3+ months to prepare for reopening during the Corona Virus, and this is all they’ve done:

5. AT MICHELSON AND CULVER IN IRVINE, CA, I DIDN'T SEE ATTENDANTS COMING BY ON A REGULAR BASIS TO SANITIZE THE EQUIPMENT, DISINFECT DISPENSERS OR THE WATER STATIONS AND LOCKER ROOMS.

Been member here for nearly two years. In the beginning, this was a great place to work out. But that is not what I feel today. In fact, I do not feel safe at all using most of the facilities in this place anymore.

About the personal training... They only sell 30 mins.. which is really actually 20 mins provided that the gym isn't crowded.. which is kinda impossible these days. I have had two trainers in this place, and one tried to upsell me with expensive gym products while the other made what I felt was inappropriate frat boy remarks. Also, don't count on having a quality personal trainer. The trainers join and leave this place so much, I can almost always see a new trainer at least once in a month.and it does take a while for a new trainer to get used to your routines. If anything, I find the place only good for starting out and that's about it. Towards the end of my annual session, after my first trainer resigned, I was simply pushed into which ever trainer and time slot they could find. Which was rather irresponsible at best.

About the crowd, well, it's packed unless u come in during odd hours.. and by odd hours I mean like 1 hr before closing time, or mid day between lunch and dinner hours - where everyone is working... They have constantly been recruiting members into the gym to the point that there are now shady members in it. I mean ppl who are mostly here for other purposes than actual gyming. It's hard to get a workout without getting interrupted these days by people with extremely poor gym etiquette.

About the showers.... One of the nails in the coffin to this place. Let's just say this place is weird. I once enter the sauna to find a Bible group in session, and not the good kind either, the kind that preaches hatred and racism.. I complained to the staff at the counter and he wouldn't believe it, won't even bulge to go check. There are also a couple of pervs who spent a lot of their time in the showers, they shower in full view of everyone and likes to hound particular gym members, including me... while some love to leave their used underwear all over and some like to snatch your towels. Which is why I fully protest the stupid decision that is the clear glass shower doors which they recently added... Which of course the staff similarly dismisses the situation as impossible, and one they refused to follow up on. It's only a matter of time before they get themselves in a lawsuit.

Seeing as I no longer could get a good workout here, and that I no longer feel safe using half of the facilities here. I chose to leave this place.

To all new members, know what you are getting into, the management here does not really care about the shady things that happens here. and most of their staff come and go so quickly that not many will actually bother to do...

I have had a very bad experience I have been a member since 2013, but I am planning to cancel. Few months ago, I reported a lady who happens to be good friends & speaking Spanish with a lady who cleans at night. For Few moths in a row, she would go to Sauna at night, leave the Sauna door open using couple towels on the floor to keep the door open, because she would say the sauna is too hot. We dealt with her for months, She would keep doing it. She got a warning after few people including me reported her. Tonight, I finished at 10:45 & stayed in Sauna. It was around 11, the cleaning lady came & looked inside. I realized it is 11. I jumped outside. I saw the cleaning lady showing hands to LA fitness guy. A guy name Tim, came after me , he says “Your membership will be cancelled, because I am putting a warning against you”. I said, I am super sorry, Pls don’t do that, I don’t want my membership to get cancelled. He said, you have multiple warnings, I said, OMG, really? How come I don’t know about them? Who put the warnings? He says yes, I personally put them. I asked “Are you sure? You never told me you did put warnings? You never warned me. When did this happen? So I stood there & begged him not to do that, because I didn’t want my membership to get cancelled. So he says, I have two warnings, one of which he has put tonight & my membership will be cancelled afterwards. So I said, I swear to my dad’s grave I never heard from you that you gave me warning… I mean, the guy( he said his name is Tim) had a masked face like dead people & the more I explained, the more he enjoyed giving me hard time. So I don’t know why he lied, but I can’t believe with my ears I heard lies he was saying. So I not only feel unsafe at nights with this guy at the gym, but I feel uncomfortable to think about his next lie & also to know what happened with the cleaning lady, this guy & the sauna lady. So I am calling corporate office tomorrow & solve this or cancel m membership at least for the premium club. I have been going there since 2013 almost every night, but I don’t need to feel...
