I've gotten a ride on it every visit to this park (Six Flags' flagship NY area park, Great Adventure). Either this last ride was the fastest I've seen it go or I forgot how fast it flies over the track. It's a big and impressive structure with quite a length of track but the momentum of that dazzling first drop carries the train through in a jiffy. It may not be quite as smooth as a steel one of the same layout would be I'd guess, though I'd call it more intense than rough.

I haven't had the chance to ride it in it's early years when it was at the height of it's reputation though a bit of rattling around the turns isn't the most memorable bit in my estimation. For the handful of reviews citing pain from the ride I can only note that my experience isn't like that. My experience at the end of the ride as it glides back into the station is mostly a big endorphin rush with just a bit of wooziness on the side.

Features that stand out are the first hill (both up and down - even after riding it however many times the pace of the lift gets me each time) and airtime. This beast doesn't settle for zero g on most hills but goes right to positive gees (pushing the rider right up against the...

Ive been on ALOT of roller coasters many many times from here now to growing up in new England went on almost every ride there, been on thrill rides since i was about 12, 18 now, and ive never rly had a bad experience besides painful rattling causing head bumping. Until this ride. Made my head whip back from the force. It rly hurt. Im pretty sure its called whiplash, rides are supposed to be fun, not cause neck injuries. Dont know how they dont have more reviews like this. Its dangerous. Theres no support for ur neck or head. The seats are too short. This shouldnt be legal with todays regulations. Its not safe, i was not informed this was possible. It was also just agressive in general too and made me lift upward. I wasnt angling my head in an innapropriate way for something like this to happen. Besides, they had no signs, and not once was this mentioned as a risk. Like i said ive had my fair share of experience with thrill rides, and this was honestly unnexeptable. I dont know how it ever couldve been seen otherwise. Save ur self the hell and go on litterally any other awesome ride. Besides the green lantern. That...

its so fun but IT HURTS I HAVE A NECK ISSUE FROM THAT THING IM NOT JOKING AND ITS NOT LIKE I hAVE NECK INJURYS OR MY NECK IS WEAK IM 13 WITH STRONG BONES AND IF YOUR ANY OlDER AND DONT WANT YOuR NECK TO HURT DONT GO ON THIS IF YOu WANT FUN THeN dO - now im going to explain what is going to happy to you: The ride is very strong, meaning its very fast so the wind is really pushing on you, the seats are like when you go on a kiddie ride meaning theyre uncomftorble and the seats are also wood. its not like king da ka where its insanley fast, it keeps on going, although i have to admit it the ride is very fun besides the pain, the ride, it keep on going and your neck is pushing down hard for you to pick it up and that really really damning hurts, they need better seats for this ride also, its not safe i have to wear this thing around my neck so it doesnt hurt, it really frickin hurts. and your getting pushed onto the wooden seat and that also frickin hurts. Im tellig you right now this ride is so so painful, ride it if you want fun, if...

El Toro has huge airtime and is very smooth. For me personally, this is not my cup of tea for wooden coasters. The pacing is uneven, and usually a wooden coaster's rattle will make up for the less interesting parts. But because Toro doesn't have that, to me it's a ride with awesome moments scattered throughout an otherwise just okay ride. Huge drop, two awesome camelbacks, a big turnaround, and the famous rolling thunder hill are all exceeding their reputation, but between all of that is a whole lot of nothing, and after the final airtime hill the rest of the ride is forceless meandering. A shame. If you don't care about pacing and just want some airtime this will be a favorite of yours, but for me personally it's just a good ride.

El Toro has one of the BEST first drops of ANY roller coaster! Sitting in the front row provides some great visuals of the drop angle itself, while the back row is a completely different experience. On one of my most recent night rides, it really felt like I was standing up out of my seat due to the crazy amount of airtime! It was insane, especially for a wooden roller coaster! The two consecutive airtime hills following the first drop are fun, and so is the figure-8 twister section at the end of the ride. I do wish the coaster cars had more seat padding on the bottom and sides, but luckily the ride is smooth enough that it won't be too uncomfortable.
