Only regularly operating ferry in Florida so I'd say it's worth a ride! I always use it when driving Jacksonville-Amelia Island because it's a small time saver and I don't mind paying the extra few bucks to sit back and drift across the river as opposed to going up 95 the whole way.

Just a tip if you've never ridden a ferry; when you arrive, go to the first lane of the lot that isn't full of cars. Wait for the staff to wave you on. When exiting the ferry, don't pull up when the car in front of you does, the staff will whistle at you and block you. I know you're trying to get a good look at the conductor but he's gonna wave off any cars blocking your view before he...

Gotta love & appreciate the ferry :)

We love it. I'm from Hawaii and had never been on one. My husband, myself and our seven year old caught it to the other side to head to the beach. It's fast, simple. No complaints here!

It's $6.00 for a car M-F & on the weekends it's $6.00 a car but also $1.00 extra per person inside. So yes, it is a little pricey esp if you consider taking it back across instead of driving around. It's a nice drive though.

Easy load up, they tell ya when to load. Nice people who even came back around to give our little yapper a milkbone. Lol

Cash/credit. Vouchers if ya got um. Runs every...

Well, I never rode on the ferry. I had lived in Jacksonville for 2 years and had never been on a ferry. I knew I was moving soon. I guess the waters were calm. The worker didn't have patience for anyone not knowing what I was doing. This post is in November, but I went in July. But it was a cool experience. As I said, I went for the fun of it. It was a quick 10-minute ride, I think. But I guess I could just say the ferry was a normal ride. It sprinkled a little. We got outside the car a few minutes, it was nice. If you read this review, would you please give me a thumbs...

The Jacksonville Transit Authority (JTA) operates this river crossing. Cash or card, you're all welcome to ride! We took the ferry to shorten our ride time to Fernandina Beach.. and since my mother never rode this ferry over the Saint John's River. You are allowed to exit your vehicle for better viewing, but remember to turn off your vehicle motor once on board. Bicycle or pedestrian come aboard! The experience is brief but memorable, this being our second time. So skip crossing the Dames Point Bridge and bring your 4-wheel friend aboard the Mayport Ferry!

$7 for a car, it takes the same amount of time to drive as the ferry ride. You don't save time; however, you save wear and tear on your vehicle. Beautiful scenery. Lots of birds(pelicans, seagulls, etc) on the pilings and sometimes dolphins in the water. Due to Covid you must remain in your vehicle. Cash or credit card accepted. Walk on, bicycle, motorcycle, and various axle configurations vary in price. Staff exceptionally friendly. 1 blast from ferry horn for departure is loud, but they announce it. Definitely worth taking the trip!
