Set Em Up Fishing Charters — Attraction in Jacksonville

The July Salt Strong, Jax Chapter, Fishing Tournament was flounder, with first place being 1/2 off a charter with Joe Curtis at Set Em Up Fishing Charters. Thank you Joe for the generous gift.

I won first place and used the charter this morning to fish the jetties. We had looked at going last month, but decided to wait until the heat and water temperature broke a little. I had not fished the jetties so I was really looking forward to the experience and learning opportunity. Joe totally delivered on both.

The first spot we caught several keeper sheepshead, keeping the 2 we wanted to eat tonight. Also, a couple of nice jacks. Second spot was out at the tip of the jetties. Caught some smaller ones, including a moonfish, unfortunately the sharks found us and took the larger guys before we could get them in the boat. Hence, we moved on after a few losses. On the outside of the jetties, north side, we caught a nice assortment of fish, and had one large one on the line. My effort to pull it in quick ended with a bent hook and broken heart.

Back in the jetties and couple of spots, more sheep and the nice flounder pictured.

Lots of action all morning, and Joe shared tons of knowledge. Awesome...

Enjoyed an absolute epic day off shore fishing with Captain Joe and my Grandchildren. We went about 25 miles out of Mayport Marina, took a few minutes to set up and dropped 4 lines in the water for some nonstop fishing action. Seldom was there a moment that someone didn’t have a taunt line with a fish on and multiple times we experienced simultaneous angler hook ups. Despite the chaotic action Captain Joe, who is a true professional, adeptly handle the boated fish and reloaded with new bait seamlessly. We boated a variety of different species of fish Cobia, Vermillion Snapper, Trigger, Jacks, Red Snapper (released), Spade, and a nice King that a Shark dined on before we were able to boat. We have been on a few charters, but this one was, by far, the best! Joe was AMAZING in every way. We caught so many fish, despite the season being a bit behind, (which he was very upfront about), he was personable, kind, friendly, knowledgeable, fun, entertaining - literally everything you could want or need in a guide. We will not choose any other guide whenever we are here - which is every 3 months due to our Mayo visits. As some may know, Mayo can be exhausting and stressful, but after our appointments, our time spent with Joe out fishing, honestly made all of the stress, worries, and cares disappear.
