Local forest preserve. Neighborhood is changing, litter, drinking and drug use (see picture of OD on Foster Trail) in some areas. Grass needs to be cut back on trails,by the road sides and barberry bushes also need to be cut back. The new board walk is beautiful but 20 yrs too late and gives the area a "Jurassic Park" feel. The remaining trails should have been fixed because heavy equipment ruined the Foster, Berwyn and adjoining connecting trails with holes and now standing water. Great for long haul biking fanatics as a connection to other trails. The Lawerence and North East River Road NW corner is asphalted but no walking trail along Lawrence to River Road for foot traffic going to Rosemont and Schiller Park for work. Bad exit strategy by the contractor and whoever approved this work order. Hopefully repairs will be made if enough people complain about the ruined old connecting trails on both sides of the Foster trail. Cook County Forest Preserve has a website and people can complain under the "trails" section, fdpcc.com recommend carrying "pepper spray" on trails (not for coyotes but drugged out, drunk people). A sad find the first week of 11/2023 ..... 9mm shell casing on the Berwyn Avenue trail. Cook County Forest Preserves need to be held accountable with the new tax dollars that were approved by voters This area is no longer safe because of increase gang activity and drug sales on trails and in...
Read moreReally nice woods, albeit flat as the bond market in 2013. Kind of amazing there's such a nice woodsy area by O'Hare Airport. Some Meetuppers go on a hike from the Forest Park stop on the Blue Line to the Cumberland stop on the Blue Line. There are a few scattered portopotties, but bathrooms aren't abundant, so bear that in mind when deciding on the size of your pre-walk latte. There's also a nice picnic area in a big grassy field. There is a trail going throughout the woods, although you have to trailblaze a bit behind the picnic area. You walk along the river for a bunch of the hike, which is also nice. There's wildlife, too--three deer towards the beginning of our walk in February. Cross-country skiing looked decent along the trail, too, and we saw several...
Read moreI visited this trail several times during my stay in Rosemont. While not as well-marked as the trails I hike in Ontario, it was absolutely teaming with deer! There were a few times where I went there for a walk and seemed to run into one every few minutes. The section of the trail that I walked along followed the Des Plaines River. It's not really a single trail, but rather a while bunch that fork in a lot of places, sometimes ending up in marshy terrain. Some of the paths also loop and return back to the starting point without having to backtrack. If you're looking to see deer, then you should definitely check it out; I saw several every single time I visited, even my short 15-minute...
