Easily one of my most cherished parks in Chicago. The nearly mile long loop has become of my favorites to walk my dog. The Nature Trail is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. I wish I could go on it more often as I usually have my dog with me (for fellow dog-owners, please make sure to not use this trail, although I know it is tempting. They have many species of birds that will not nest there if there is dog traffic on the paths).
They are currently in the middle of building a new dog park as well, which I am looking forward to. Aside from that, the massive hill on the North side of the park is one of my favorite spots in the entire neighborhood to sit with my pup, read, picnic, etc. They have basketball courts, a playground, tennis courts (with pickleball markings), baseball fields, and a soccer enclosure. Read moreI live close by this park and go here often for a run. It's clean and well maintained, with a decent 1-mile loop. There is a smaller loop too, so if you feel like slacking off on your run, this comes as a good excuse :) The park is frequently busy with walkers, runners, and people on their bikes, but never too crowded. There's a baseball field with kids baseball teams in the Summer and football in the Fall. It has a small taco/condiments stand in this part of the park, but not sure how the food is, since I've never eaten there. There are also tennis courts and basketball courts. Read moreHorner Park is a real treasure. The field house and field house staff provide a huge variety of service and activities including arts and woodworking along with the other things You expect from a Chicago park.
The park itself has a lot of natural beauty including being adjacent to the river and having a much more rolling landscape than your average city park. It has at least two significant hills that really add character. The walking track is large and significant enough to keep it interesting rather than feeling like you are a gerbil on a treadmill.
