I would have given this Japanese garden five stars, except for the two flat or rock/gravel gardens which were poorly designed and maintained. The one flat garden had sharp angled larger rocks placed in it as well as inappropriate flowering shrubs falling all over the place leaving lots debris in the gravel. The other flat garden had a stone path through the middle with an inexplicable short stone walkway placed halfway in between. The stepping stones used for the path appeared to be different rock varieties with sharp angles. They seemed so out of place there and a distraction. This one also had the problem of not being flat, but instead the gravel was tapered down in spots and spilling out. Both suffered from having silly circles raked into the gravel. Yuck. Having said that, I would still recommend the Japanese garden as a whole as there are a number of beautiful trees and shrubs manicured in a Japanese style. I also really liked that it is on two islands connected by bridges as well as a third island that you can only view. Most of the rocks/boulders looked naturally placed, with the exception of the ones in the flat garden.
