Bijou Beauty & Hair Supply — Attraction in Jersey City

I'm not sure if I was racially profiled or they were recently having a lot of robberies over that week BUT I was watched and followed soon as I came through the door. I always go to this hair store since its right around the corner but on this day there was a short Asian man there (manager idk). I went to the aisle where my hair was and before I knew it the Asian man was at the end of the aisle watching me. Just standing there randomly. I was waiting for him to ask me did I need assistance but no he just stood there pretending not to watch me. Of course, I even said hi to maybe start up a conversation so he would stop staring a hole into my head. He said hi so coldly and continued to stare. I WILL NEVER EVER go back to this store. I felt so unwelcomed. I will rather walk the distance to Kims than to offer them my money again. It's really a shame because the women in there are so nice and helpful. Word of advice: don't open a store in a black neighborhood if you are going to be scared of black people...

I dread going inside a jersey city beauty supply store, either it’s so crowded with merchandise that it’s hard to even try to find brands, poorly lit and the display wigs look sad. All I can say is Thank you Pauline Cooper and Trent, there’s no dismissive attitude or blank look, they suggest styles w/o overselling. Plus you get to talk “ human talk”. Working in a beauty Supply store is rough, mentally taxing, got to bring your A Game to keep clients coming back. And for those out there who do shop here, ask for either one, and humble advice, when u go to a restaurant, service is expected, friendliness and manners, and you tip accordingly; the owners do not compensate these employees well, after they have assisted you, tip them, 2 & 3 dollars per person helped adds up. It was Sunday evening, & my child waited to ask me for products that I ran out of, I always want to go to the beauty supply store. I found everything I needed for my natural thick curly locks, as well for my son's 4C grade hair, and everything extra that I saw and wanted. Got to the counter and the beautiful young lady at the counter pleasantly greeted me, asked if I found everything I needed, and (upsell) suggested additional items that were tools needed for the items I bought. I will admit, I didn't think about getting this, and would have not gotten it if she had not mentioned it. My child needed this. Truly good customer service.
