We have been attending Houston NW Church now for about 6 years now.... My wife was working at a day care whene a co-worker of hers invited her to attend a service. We have been attending a church but it was too far away to be going to attend service.
At one point on a Sunday we were heading to the church and it was kinda getting late to attend service and we were passing Houston NW Church and out of a whim I exited the freeway and made a turnaround and headed to Houston NW Church, upon our arrival at the door we were greeted with a smile and talked to us like they already knew us.
We proceeded to enter the sanctuary and we stayed and really enjoyed the music and the entire service. After the service we stayed for the Bible Study and gave us some classes that we might be intrested in so we choosed to attend a marriage class which Dr. Tom King directed and again they greet us with a smile and talked to us like they already knew us.... All of my kids liked it there and they quickly made friends there... Now when kids friends speend the weekend at the house we just tell them that they can if they are willing to attend a church service with them and all the time they agree.... since then we haven't left the church..
Now we go to church not out of habit but to get feed with the Word of God, but we should study the Word of God daily in order to get our daily feeding...
God calls us all be missionaries, but, that doesn't mean taking the Word of God to a third world country. If you look around where you are, where you work, where you live, where you do your weekly grocery shopping there are hundreds of people that might not heard the Word of God where you can be ministering to, thus making you a missionary... A missionary in your very own back yard...
In closing Houston NW Church to us have been a blessing and we are grateful that we all can be not just an attender but one big family through our Lord Jesus Christ and our GOD!!!!!!
Now we have learned alot since we have been there. We tend to invite friends and family to...
Read moreCompletely forgot to write a reviews ages ago. I'm mainly targeting young adults, as I happen to be one, but I also highly encourage others to read this anyways. Especially if you're worried about feeling unwelcome or outcast by churches prior.
I've been in and out of churches most of my life. I'd say when I was attending church(es), I tried over 20+ in the span of a few years and none felt like home. I started regularly attending HNW around a year or so ago.
Problems I'd frequently run into with other churches: Personal agendas, I'd see churches picking and choosing which parts of the Bible they did and didn't want to fit their own goals. Perfectionism, many times I'd notice there was a literal or implied stigma that we have to be perfect, and that the leaders in the church were perfect, and those who weren't couldn't be good leaders or role models or even have a role in the church. Overall unwelcoming atmospheres. Some churches didn't have anyone engage or even come talk to you. And some had no plans in place for member involvement. The young adults groups were nonexistent or inactive.
Houston Northwest was the first place I found that didn't do those things. And they had a lot more to offer. A few key points:
The leadership does a great job conveying the fact that HNW follows the Word of God and stays true to that no matter the political or personal implications. There is a plethora of members who welcome you, and talk to you at any time. Additionally there are tons of resources available to get plugged in with. From kids, to married adults, there's a place for you. The young adults group is active and diverse. With bible studies offered nearly every weeknight, and socials/events nearly every weekend, it's hard not to find a place to fit in. They are all very warm and welcoming to new members.
I highly encourage anyone looking for a new church to come try HNW, and if we aren't the best fit for you, that you can find the...
Read moreMy wife works every other weekend so when she is off we attend HNW. We have been there almost every other Sunday for about 3 years. I am a musician so I am probably overly critical of the way the praise and worship is presented as part of the service. That being said the music here is the most uplifting experience I can imagine whether I am singing along or just quietly taking it in. The musicians and vocalists are amazingly talented and seem so passionate about delivering the word through music. That alone would probably keep me coming back, but the "thing" that sets this church apart is the Pastor. I usually read the passages at the beginning of the sermon and then find myself reading on from there in the Bible while the pastor is preaching. I do not do that when Pastor Steve preaches. I find myself hanging on every word because I believe that he believes them. I wholeheartedly believe that he is anointed to preach the gospel and that is what keeps me coming back. It is not important for my wife and I to be a member of any church since that has nowadays become more like a club membership that being part of a body of believers. I will say that while the people involved in the church services seem very friendly no one in 3 years have engaged in any meaningful conversation with us. Only a friendly greeting assuring us that they are glad we came. We support the church financially because we think it is the right thing to do and we support the various missions and extra seasonal fund raising efforts because we have been blessed and feel the need to pass it on. So as long as Pastor Steve is delivering the messages we will keep coming to partake in the spiritual meal. May God richly bless...
