I’m gonna give 2 stars because I actually put forth a grande effort in furthering my career as a stylist, unlike them in retaining hardworking talented students. I’ll give the back story so it’s more understandable. Considering I’ve been getting numerous concerned calls and texts from class mates and even family / friends wondering about school. My son had the flu for the duration of the time he’s in my (care per court order, not like I could have said no keep him I have class, a judge doesn’t care!) , with a fever 105.1, wouldn’t eat , zombified, hoarse , spare throat chills all over , barely able to move , dates 2/23/20-today ! Noted : I LIVE AN HOUR AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL ( in North Carolina ) . As you all know classes began February 11, 2020 , orientation was February 9th. I go into orientation room and their is nothing with my name no shirt badge booklet nothing ... so I have to makeshift a seat and seek assistance to receive the things everyone else had placed around on tables welcoming them to school.... well I won’t pick out their flaws, hence 2 stars.... yet I gave them a chance. I was dropped from my classes and sent letter of withdrawal due to the fact I had to stay home with my sick child. After being told there may be something that could be done , as well as me verifying my partner(LGBT) was completely free to care for him after her season ends. I was sent an email with a decision made for me to be withdrawn, not dropped from their system as I was told I would have been due to my attendance and it was out of their control. Nonetheless... I’ll be making and official vlog about my “withdrawal from school” and give full detail about my “lovely” schools cooperation during the time my 2 year old baby boy caught the flu for the first time in his life!
Updated : during this time seeing as my son is living in multiple states and their is a deadly virus amongst us . The only days missed were due to sickness , along the lines of the same I’ve spreading drastically . I’m still home facing the same illness with me my child and my partner with medical notices to STAY HOME from school and work . Yet you withdrew me, i supposed bringing sickness to your school and spreading it would have been more ideal ? I’m glad I’m not longer a student with jenny lea academy . I learned nothing but how to charge a student 4600 , even during a health crisis. I’ll be happy to find education elsewhere and take this matter up with whom it concerns best. Thank you for what u think you gave me , nothing but a bad story & headache...
Read moreTotally hostile environment. Second rate and unprofessional on every level. Beware all future students and employees…..I have never been involved in such a horrible toxic environment in my life. I thought this place might be on the up but a couple of years after new ownership and it seems to be going down hill with each visit I have in there. You can feel the oppression and the tension as soon as you walk thru the front door. Thank God for the students, a few of the Instructors, & more than anything, the front desk staff. Both of them were pleasant and wonderful to deal with. There are a few instructors who are top tier that I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with. Then there are more instructors in the school now, who have absolutely no idea what they are doing, and it’s very obvious. I try to steer clear. Not only is their attitude offensive, but their direction has produced less than stellar results. As many times as I have been in there, you hear a lot while getting an extended service. The students are usually left without the proper color for the services they are performing, and from what I can tell, the owners know nothing about the laws and regulations that govern the hair industry. The students have absolutely nothing worthy to say about how they are treated by these owners of the school. They do not get a complete kit for the work they need to perform, and it’s pretty sad considering it costs quite alot to go to the academy to begin with. I think I’m done going here altogether after my last visit anyway and I advise you to do the same. There seems to be a high turn over of employees, and the really good instructors are all leaving or are going to be leaving very soon. I don’t blame them a bit. This used to be the best school in the area. Now it’s just a second rate school with a high price tag. It seems to be run more like a business than a school and the cost to get a service there anymore doesn’t seem to fit the needs of the clients that want to get services performed. I believe it’s time to find another school with caring and passionate people employed. It feels like most of the people working there are so down trodden and it shows. I’m sorry that Jenny Lea has gone so far down hill anymore. I will be sad to take my business elsewhere in the future. I advise anyone else to do nothing less than...
Read moreI’m not one to be extremely picky, and have came to the Academy on multiple accounts for waxes, haircuts, etc, but today (08/11/20), a friend and I were truly disappointed. Now, before I’m jumped on, I KNOW these girls are students, and for their sake, I will not release their names. First, it should NOT take 3 and a half hours to do a full set of acrylics. Again, I know they’re students, but my tech-in-training had more than enough help from her teacher. Our appointment started at 11am, we were taken in at around 10:50am, and did not leave the academy until around 2:35pm. I was told already mid-way appointment by the instructor, quote on quote, “now, BECAUSE she’s a student, these are gonna pop off sooner so you may notice it in about a week.” Okay, but if her tips are going to pop off two weeks sooner than normal, shouldn’t she not be allowed to work with the public yet? After about 30-45 minutes of tips continuously popping off, I was told it was because of my own personal nails. I agree, my nails are thin, but I’ve NEVER experienced this at ANY salon. The instructor was rude, told me to put my phone away, even though my tech-in-training wasn’t even remotely close to priming and painting my nails, and was working on my opposite hand. That’s enough for me, now for my friend. No tips popping off, but still took just as long for her appointment, maybe a ten minute difference. Her tech-in-training waited till she was painting her last nail to inform her: “sorry, I’m kinda bad at painting nails. also I’ve never done acrylics on anyone before, just myself and my mom.” This was unprofessional in both of our opinions, as I don’t think it’s smart to inform your client that you’ve never done that specific service before, and especially to admit that you’re bad at it. That’s asking for a complaint. She did not clean up the sides of her nails, they’re grossly thick, and there are chunks of glue dangling from the sides of her nails. I was offered a glue clean up under my nails, but kindly declined as I was honestly just ready to leave. Needless to say, it will be a while before we come...
