Holy Taco Cantina Downtown — Restaurant in Johnson City

I have not dined here in awhile, but I took a risk and gave them another chance. They have “gluten free option” listed in their menu but they are under the mindset that a corn tortilla = a gluten free dish. I asked if their chicken seasoning was gluten free and the response was “I think so”. I explained my allergy to gluten and dairy and my tacos came out smothered in queso sauce. I had to hand them back and have them remade. Not once when I’ve dined here have they gotten my meal right, and I’ve dined here periodically over the course of many years. I’ve never once not had to send my meal back. I also mentioned that I couldn’t have the chips and my meal came out with chips all over my plate. It’s now been 3 days and I’m still sick from the food. My guess is that their seasoning isn’t gluten free and that their kitchen doesn’t change their gloves, wipe down surfaces, or pay any attention to cross contamination. This place is great if you order exactly what is listed on the menu and have zero food allergies. I learned my lesson and will never go back because being sick for days on end doesn’t make it worth it for a few basic tacos. Go down the street to White Duck if you have food allergies as they take them...

This might be the worse review I’ve left for an establishment in JC :/ After all the great food and service I’ve had this week, this place underwhelmed me.

I thought that it was understaffed, considering that I was ignored for the first 20 minutes I was there. Not just ignored in the sense that I wasn’t seen, ignored in that they looked at me multiple times and saw me waiting to place an order and didn’t even take two seconds to let me know they’ll be with me shortly. The staff seemed stressed and as a result were a bit rude.

Food was good, not great. Prices were average. As a comparison, all of my reviews in JC have noted great quality food + very low/reasonable prices. This is not the case here.

I think there are much better places in JC you can spend time at. This place was open late so it was appealing, but there are other restaurants open late as well if that’s what you’re looking for (Rainbow Asian Cuisine is open...

We visited this past Halloween and will not go back. If you get Logan as a waiter good luck. Nothing is better than being greeted by your waiter standing outside of the restaurant smoking saying, "I'll be in there in a few minutes." The service by Logan was sub par at best. We sat with our chips and salsa for nearly forty minutes before my husband had to get up and get Logan to take our dinner order as he stared aimlessly at the wall. Not to mention the guy doesn't know how to make a margarita that doesn't taste like Koolaid (he needs to be trained or stay away from the bar.) Thankfully the female bartender was great. I won't go into long details but there were several errors with our order as well. Logan was far from apologetic when the errors were obviously due to him not listening.
