Joliet can celebrate the fabulous repurposing of an old, beautiful landmark! We just visited the newly opened Bishops Hill Winery for a wine tasting. What a wonderful idea this was! The long unoccupied building, standing on a hill overlooking downtown, is now one of Joliet's most charming locations to hang with friends. In converting the classic building (and former brewery) into a winery, the new owners lost none of its historical elegance. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, filled with laughter from the bar/tasting room and pleasant chatter from the sitting areas scattered through the Castle's rooms. Besides taking in the long hidden, perfectly restored interior, we enjoyed 9 delicious wines plus a generous and varied charcuterie platter. The wines offered included one white, a velvety Chardonnay (quite tasty) and 8 reds, from a lighter Malbec through the richer Cabs. Locally produced from California grapes, the wines are all exceptionally good (especially for not being from "the wine country.") We both agreed, however, that the Petite Verdot was our favorite. As you begin planning your outings, be sure to include the Bishops Hill Winery on your Must Do list!

There are not enough stars on Google for me to give this wonderful place. Atmosphere, service, personality, style, all are unparalleled at Bishop’s Hill. Amazing, unique wines and fantastic light food are just the beginning. Since discovering this gem of Joliet, I unfortunately had to move across the country. Whenever I find myself back in town, Bishop’s Hill is high on my list of must-visits. They cater to wine aficionados and casual enjoyers with equal enthusiasm and the bright smiles of their friendly staff are the perfect icing on an otherwise wonderful cake of an experience. If forced to conjure a criticism, I’d have to say I wish they shipped to MA but I blame the government for that, and picking up bottles in person is a fantastic reason to visit this stunningly restored mansion. With much love, all the way from Massachusetts.

So we stopped in on a whim. Linda was at the bar she was wonderful. Very help ful and very knowledgeable about all the wines and styles. She also gave us some tips of other wineries to visit. The wines were excellent. Favorite was the 2018 cab that was from the year of the fires. Amazing rich with a hint of smoke. Some good came from that tragedy. The place is beautiful. Take the time and visit. You won't regret it!!

Terrible terrible customer service! The website doesn’t work properly and would not allow me to reserve a wine tasting! I sent a message via their website and there was no response! I just got off the phone with THE OWNER/MANAGER and instead of apologizing, accommodating, or fixing the situation he basically said oh well we know there’s glitches in our system but we’re booked They may be booked and busy today but that can end tomorrow if they keep treating their potential customers like trash! That’s facts from one business owner to another! Customer service matters ... the customer keeps you...
