Excellent but get there before 930am to get good parking. I got the last close spot off the road. Took our dog to the ocean for the first time and it was very enjoyable. There is lots of stairs to climb up and down. I packed too much but that's ok. People were nice. Had a few furry friends run onto our blanket to say hi and get a drink of water. No issue for me but if your the type of person that might not like uninvited visitors pitch your umbrella far from the water. The closer you are to the water the more people you will meet. We had a good time over all. I will say your experience will be very random. A couple had a cute dog with the worst high pitch glass breaking bark I have ever heard and they thought it was cute to make him bark while playing. Horrible. I have a huge heart for dogs but this was bad. Please leave your dog at home if he has annoying bark that makes everyone around in a 200 foot area want to bury you in the sand. Other than that my last thing to share would be get there early Sunday and leave by lunch. Much more enjoyable to have the beach empty than full. Everyone has a different idea of what acceptable is. Some people let their dog off a leash and run 100 to 200 feet away and some are responsible and stand within an easy distance to get them if two dogs start not liking one another. Please don't let my comments not let you go. It's fun but since I am new to the area I shared my thoughts with you from a "new eyes"...
Read moreA beach that allows dogs is wonderful for dog owners. Here dogs are allowed to remain unleashed. However, it quickly becomes apparent to polite and conscientious dog owners that many of the beach's visitors (other dog owners) have no concept on how to raise a well mannered dog and they come here expecting to be able to let their dog run loose and with very little control. Expect, among other things, to have dogs running on your towels, defecating and urinating without the proper cleanup by the owners (when it's not crucial to them and their position on the beach). So, to be realistic, people SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to have their dogs off leash here. They simply have not taken the time to learn how to educate a dog. Be ready for a somewhat chaotic experience and watch and control your dog at ALL TIMES for their own safety and for that of others...
Read moreA very nice stretch of beach just to the north of the pier. I was wondering why there were so many dogs running around by us, but in looking later, I realised that it was an off-leash dog beach. It was actually very clean, and thankfully it appeared that folks were cleaning up after Fido and Rufus, which is great. The dunes to the west are covered in vegetation, so you really donât hear traffic unlike many other beaches with roads going right near the shore. Of course, the sound of the waves and the wind will mostly drown out any noise anyways. There is a car park with free parking (about 100 spaces) right near the pier, but this stretch has many openings and access points which is very helpful, and there are also plenty of bins for rubbish at many of the access points. Would highly recommend a visit if...
