Kansas City, Kansas Public Library Main Library — Attraction in Kansas City

This was our first time to the main library. I was very impressed. When we walked in the lady at the front desk asked if she could help with anything. We were looking for the Kansas room. She directed us there. The librarian in the Kansas room, Anne, was very knowledgeable. She told us a couple summaries of historical stories and historical places that are close. She directed us to the youth services to help us further. Amanda in youth services was awesome. She was easily able to guide us to the type of books we were looking for, found some more books in the reference section, and directed us to an electronic source for what we were looking for. She also recommended other services of the library, unrelated to our inquiry but helpful. She was delightful. The facilities we visited were nice. I was surprised to hear they are planning to build a new building for the main library. I don't think it's needed. Also I really liked that they had separate librarians in the different sections, rather than a central desk. I felt we got more specialized service. I feel the library employees at west Wyandotte branch aren't as interactive. Not bad there, just not as interactive at the main...

Tried to utilize the library but the wrong bus schedules and personnel misinformation had me chasing a mobile library that wasn't running the schedule posted. Nice people, but terrible communication and full of excuses. Ended up buying the book after 3 failed conversations and 2 trips.

Not only is the schedule hard and incorrect for users, it was also hard for 2 KCKPL employees. One admitted it was a mess and he couldn't understand it, the other sent me the wrong location in writing. The KCKPL is a hidden gem that people should utilize more. The staff are VERY helpful and friendly. They will help you find whatever book or source that you are looking for. They also facilitate many different types of meetings, demonstrations, movies, TedTalks etc. AND they have rooms that you can reserve ...for...FREE!!! Definitely one of the BEST things...
