I write reviews when I feel truly moved by an experience, or service. My wife and I prefer local places and are always looking for the best customer service. Plainly, we work hard for our money and sometimes our work involved a lot of risk. We want the benefits of that danger and labor to be memorable and enjoyable. We chose Catamaran Kahanu because they are local, family run, have a TON of good reviews and had a small number of people on the boat. We were not packed like sardines in a can. Their team was extremely responsive, both calling and emailing back. They kept things small and personal. Because they are smaller, they are more flexible. If one of the captains saw a whale, they would head that way, quietly and safely. Often the whales seemed to get closer to our boat that the others out there. We got several great views of humpbacks, including a calf jumping out of the water (which we got on video). Other tours I have been on, are on a super tight schedule, or are impersonally run and packed. The captains on the Kahanu included two experienced captains, one of which was a biologist and the other a native speaker with tons of information about the islands and their history. We learned a ton. We were taught how the lei is made traditionally, as well as other types of traditional plant weaving. We had plenty of snorkeling time, and felt safe throughout, without feeling like that interrupted the experience. The team was professional, appropriate, safe, knowledgeable and personable. They engaged us in the history of the islands and the special connection that Hawaiians share with the ocean and the land. We saw a sea turtle, tons of fish, had a nice lunch, and in general felt well taken care of. If you want a really solid tour of the Na’ Pali coast, or someone to take you snorkeling (we did both) check with Catamaran Kahanu. The views were absolutely stunning, and the captains got us so close to the cliffs we could see the mountain goats climbing along. I would certainly give them my business again.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the most incredible snorkeling tour with Catamaran Kahanu, and I can confidently say that it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we set sail to the moment we returned, every aspect of the trip was handled with utmost professionalism, warmth, and genuine care by the exceptional crew members. The catamaran itself was spacious, clean, and well-equipped, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment. The snorkeling spots chosen by the crew were breathtaking, showcasing the vibrant coral reefs and the abundant marine life that Maui has to offer. I highly recommend Catamaran Kahanu for anyone seeking an extraordinary snorkeling experience. Captain Lani, Auntie Debbie, Captain Kamua, Captain Emma, Nikie, and Anuenue made this tour an unforgettable journey filled with laughter, awe-inspiring sights, and cherished memories. Their exceptional service, expertise, and warm personalities set them apart, and I cannot wait to join them on another adventure in the future. Thank you, Catamaran Kahanu, for a remarkable snorkeling tour that exceeded all expectations. You deserve all the stars and more! Mahalo nui loa

The kids said this tour was the best thing we did all week in Kauai. We had Captain Kamua along with his lovely assistants Makana and Anuenue. This was my parent's 3rd time with this family-run business, our 1st but definitely not our last. We saw groups of almost 50 people getting on the huge catamarans but that's just not our scene. Captain Kamuah and his ladies were so personable, knowledgeable and fun! And on this smaller boat, we could get closer to waterfalls and such. They provide snorkeling gear and the snorkeling was fantastic. When we got back on the boat, a locally catered lunch was laid out and was delicious. Though every day is different, we were able to see breaching whales from a distance, a baby whale and mama somewhat close up, porpoises super close up, and a few sea turtles. They were also extra prepared for my sister who is prone to motion sickness and took great care of her. Of all the things to do on Kauai, this is what they wanted to do on their 40th anniversary. You must book early! I promise, you won't regret it, especially if you get to have Captain Kamua, Ānuenue and Makana on board. Thanks again!!!

Hands down THE best way to experience the Na Pali coast is with Catamaran Kahanu. I've sailed with most of the operators out of port Allen who do Na Pali coast tours, and none of them can compare to the warm aloha and incredible experience you get with the captain and crew of Catamaran Kahanu. In addition to your cruise of the breathtaking coastline, your Captain will share Hawaiian stories and legends while doing live weaving demonstrations. If you are lucky enough to visit during whale season (Dec-March/April), you will have a knowledgeable marine biologist/Captain on board as well who will share all kinds of incredible information about the beautiful whales you see. On our last voyage, the waves were rough, but the expert Captain got us most of the way up the coast, then spotted 4 different whales for us to admire. All before a gorgeous snorkel experience and deli lunch. My personal favorite thing to do on this catamaran is enjoy the view from the front and enjoying the ocean spray as your cruise along. If you at looking for a great experience and are interested in the Hawaiian culture, this is the absolute best tour.

Captain Lani and his nephew provided such an amazing experience out on the water for my friends and I. Unlike the rest of the tours on the island, this one is smaller and more personalized. The other tours are so commercialized that you don't get any special experience. Captain Lani's boat was also amazing, he handled the larger waves with such ease and got us close to the Na Pali cliffs to see the caves. Him and his nephew also made sure everyone felt comfortable when we were swimming and snorkeling. Not only that, his nephew was a great guide, and even made hats/necklaces from coconut/ti leaves for guests on board. The highlights of the trip were seeing Na Pali coast and also stopping to see dolphins and snorkeling with tons of fish and sea turtles. The value of this tour is beyond words - Captain Lani and his family paid attention to all the guests and got to know who we are. They provided a delicious lunch after we snorkelled. I would do this tour every time I visit this island in the future, especially knowing that I supported a Hawaiian family owned business in an industry run over by giant companies.

*please SUPPORT LOCAL HAWAIIAN FAMILIES* Because look no further, you’ve found the greatest boat tour on the island that truly makes you apart of their ohana. The entire family is lovely compassionate people who are very knowledgeable in their trade and compassionate to those lucky enough to book with them. Unfortunately, I got severely sea sick as I am very prone to it. It was at no fault of the crew or boat. However, Captain and Anuenue were helping me drink water, chew ginger, spray fresh water, readjust my location, take pictures for me, & even went out of their way to move my car for me so I didn’t have to walk after disembarking. I felt terrible for being so incapacitated, especially as a nurse, it’s one of the only times I realized I was the one needing help. But I was in awe by the support and Kindness they demonstrated continually The tour was amazing we got to swim with dolphins, see sharks and whales! Although there are many other well advertised marketable boating tours groups, they don’t demonstrate the love shared as this local Hawaiian family does, Mahalo
