Hanalei Surf Co. — Attraction in Kauai

Place is pretty cool. Some nice clothing, good selection of wax and boards, and a decent rental fleet. John helped me out with some rentals and I thought he was an owner as he took a lot of care and was cool to spend time going through the rental fleet with me to get a board picked out. I rented and ended up swapping boards out 5 times as conditions changed and I tried out different boards. No problem, you sign some paperwork each time but it’s not a huge deal. Get the insurance just for your own peace of mind- it’s like 5$ a day.

You can park in hanalei, rent here, and walk down to the beach or rent and drive to the beach. Either are fine as everything is pretty close.

Overall this was a good surf shop and rental fleet. They don’t really have amazing shortboards, most are torq/tufflite- which make sense for rentals as they get beaten to heck, but they do tend to have a bit less flex and are heavier and more durable.

They have a few really nice longboards but they are a bit more expensive. Rentals for umbrella and snorkel and all that were super affordable. Umbrella was 5 a day I think.

Overall good time, could have a few more higher end shortboard, but I couldn’t find any better place to rent on Kauai incl. tamba and a few other shops. I...

Been looking for a Torq Mod Fish Soft Deck for months but thanks to COVID they were backed up with production. I contacted Patrick since they were one of the authorized dealers for Torq boards and he really helped me out. He was patient with my numerous texts about updates on the next shipments and after a few months, I got the text I was waiting for...it arrived!!! Living on Oahu, he had to ship it to me but that was such a breeze and I received my board the same day he shipped it out! The rentals were great, but I write because of what happened after we returned the equipment.

After we left town, I realized that I left my wedding ring in one of the fin bags. I could not go back because of the road closures and our flight schedule. When I called Kyle said that they hadn’t found a ring but he agreed to go back and check the bag. Those weren’t just words to appease me. He actually found the ring and agreed to mail it to me at no cost.
