Great value, family-friendly natural foods store. The location is great. Though parking is challenging and requires extra care during peak hours. We know we can good a solid value for our dollar at Hoku. The staff is like extended family - they are friendly and kind, considerate and prompt. They have been great with short checkout lines in the past year (thank you!!!). Their grab and go selection has expanded which is still a bit limited - but is great and we appreciate it. Hoku, unlike other stores, strives for selection but without compromising their values around earth-friendly packaging (eg. No plastic bottles sold here). No importing produce from long distances. In effect, this means you cannot expect the broad selection of health food items you may find at other stores. What Hoku does carry though, you can count on being reasonably priced and carefully selected. It is a community gathering place in the isles. The locals' store, or for the savvy or lucky health-conscious tourist. Non-food item grocery store selection is limited, though with general solid choice options for your most commonly needed non-food goods. Mahalo Hoku Family. Produce quality is great. They do run out of popular items. So while they are usually stocked, occasionally they may not have what you need, but they can usually tell you when it will be in stock...
Read moreI had a bad experience with an overly feminist, rude, unwelcoming cashier, since then the owner has talked to me, the cashier has since been fired. The owner told me today that they want everyone to feel welcome. So, I have changed my review from 2 to 4 stars. Edit, one week later I had to knock off 2 stars because EVERY time I have ever tried to talk to an employee about finding something or making a healthier choice the employee which is willing to help me always gets called away before they can help. This has happened at least 5 times over the past 3 years, too many times to be coincidental. It is evident that there is still someone there who doesn't like me. I'd rather you hate me for who I am than love me for...
Read moreUsually I don't have a problem with the store but recently I went to buy some sale items and they charged me full price, which I did not realize until I got to my car so I went back to the store and looked again to make sure that they were on sale and the signs were clearly up so I went to the cashier with my receipt and let her know. She sent another employee to check. She said that the they were not on sale anymore. I told her that the signs were still up and they should honor the prices then take down the signs. She ignored me and walked away. The cashier took back the items and gave me my money back but that's not the point, it's false advertising. Very disappointing. Always get your receipt...
